Well this is it folks, the end of Alice is Dead. I'd strongly advise you to avoid reading reviews until after you've played unless you want to risk seeing spoilers.
Huge thanks to Tom and Newgrounds for once again sponsoring this. And more importantly, thanks to Newgrounds for making such a large collaboration of talented people possible.
And thank you to all of the fans. You guys seriously rock and motivate us more than you know.
I thought this was a great game, though you do really need to think about it to really get the ending (and not get mad at it). Good job! I loved this series so much.
First time I played this through, I was rather disappointed at the ending. Then I played it again, and paid really close attention to the journal entries, and I realized something:
Rabbit did NOT want to kill Alice. It says so in his journal. But if he didn't, Hatter would, and he would probably torture her while he was doing so. Rabbit had to make a choice- kill his friend and make it quick, or let Hatter do it and make it slow and painful. Also, the relieved look on his face before Queen shot him... I think that he saw Alice climbing into the car, and that he took it as a sign that Alice was going to kill Queen for him, and that she'd forgiven him. So he could go in peace.
As for the Cheshire Cat, that just made me want to cry. If you do a sequel (starring the newly-risen Alice, I'd guess) it'd probably be a good idea to make it/her (I don't know what the cat was, but it was Burr's DAUGHTER after all) a bigger role. It would be interesting to see.
Anyway, great game(s). This would make an AWESOME show someday.
This is a great, fun, and original series. I just adored the puzzle of the game, and the grim tone it had throughout. The story was great, it left me excited, waiting to see what was going to happen next, what great things was this wonderful crew going to do?...Then I was dissapointed.
I'm not going to sugar coat it, that was a poorly done ending, which surprises me. It felt lazy. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this didn't have enough effort put into it. I'm certain you put tons of effort into this game, I'm not going to lie. But the ending was just so depressingly boring and vague, it left me speechless. There was so many unanswered questions that I feel empty or unsatisfied without them being answered!
Who is "The Queen"?
What is the Rabbit's organisation?
What happened between the Rabbit and Alice?
What is the doctor trying to accomplish?
Who or what is this Cheshire Cat, where is he now, why is he here, and WHEN WILL I SEE HIM?!
I'll have to say that was my main dissapointment. The Cheshire Cat you made for this story. He was showing up everywhere. He haunted me. I wanted him to jump out at me at one point in the game. I wanted him to have more purpose. I had so much hope for the Cheshire Cat. Normally, leaving the audience to figure things out by themselves interests me, but only when there is enough information that they can use to come up with an answer. The things you added in just seem so...purposeless now.
However, I'm ranting. The game is still great, fun, and gets you thinking. I wouldn't have put too much thought into this review if I didn't like it. I still loved it. It was still just the ending that hit me with a burst of dissatisfaction. Hopefully you will make something that will add to this series and answer the rest of it's questions, that would be great.
In conclusion, this is still great, and I'm giving it 7/10, 4/5 for it, but the ending could have definitely used more work. Nuff' said.
...And I swear to god I will never write a review this long again.
People are sooooo stupid these days! the person at the end isn't Alice!!! it's Dr.Raymond Burr's kid! So enough with "omg Alice lives" "it's Alice!!", because Alice is dead, and that's what this story is about.
Anyways, this is a great series and aniamation is good.
I personally think that having the Rabbit die is a good ending but... Whatever.
i got the brain medal
...and thats it?
I get to the end...and he dies? And thats the end? No questions answered as to what the hell those cat things were? No answers for why he needed to kill Alice, or why he was even targetted for death in the first place?
I don't know why everyone freaked out about this. It was not even worth the time I spent on it, because there were so many holes in the story left unfulfilled this just left me empty. You should have spent more time on this, or gave a better explanation for everything that happened. Or something. This could have been SO much better.
This is unique strategic action-runner about Vikings!
