Update 3: Fixed the pausing when entering the boss room glitch. The fix is pending administrator approval. Should show up soon enough. Still working on Charge Shot for Mega Man and Power Slide for Captain.
Update 2: Front Page! Wooh, better late than never! Thanks to whoever did it. I like to think it's Tom.
Update: Added easy mode, and a button to swap the shoot and jump controls.

Tip: If the boulder section lags or you lose control, try closing any unused tabs or programs that might tax your processor, etc.

A cool little one stage game starring the Captain from Tankmen. Worked my ass off on this for the past 2-3 weeks. I hope it was worth the effort. I did most of the art myself, excluding Mega Man, some powerups, and Rush, as well as a hidden cameo from everyone's favourite plumber. Was going submit this on Pico Day, but I don't want to wait 7 months. I even got to put "Still Blastin'" in an actual Mega Man related submission.

Let me know if I missed any bugs. And please provide details.

True to the megaman style

Pretty good game. But the controls could be more user friendly mainly because having "A" and "S" keys which are so close together as jump and shoot will cause a lot of dire headaches.

Try having "D" as shoot and "Space" as jump would be much more easier considering the partition of peoples hands. Better distance between the index finger and the thumb. (especially since most games like FPS. platformers and mmorpgs use space as a jump button).

Lambtaco responds:

I don't get what's so hard about A and S. Index finger on S, middle finger on A. The way you described I could never get used to. I guess you can't please everyone.

Awesome tribute, but tough

Loved the gameplay and the overall perfect emulation of megaman games, though that also means it's really hard.

Lambtaco responds:

Thanks, I was really going for that. And when you make a game with just one level it better be hard.

Great game, but needs more levels!

I gave this a 9 because it only has one boss, and no boss select menu, and the Portal Blast doesn't do shit against Portal Man, so it's useless. The controls should have been displayed at the start of the first level, because the Q - Pause button info did not stand out to me on the start menu (it should have said weapon select or something). Because of that, I played through the game as Tank Man without any powers and beat it, then I went back as Mario and beat it with powers.

I know a lot of it is a joke (Shit Spread), but it's awesome! Pico Man would be pretty cool as a boss. Add more sliding puzzles, disappearing blocks, a water level, etc. and this would be the best game ever. Controls A+ (I've beaten Mega Man 1-8, and X1-6) - very tight, much like the original, even down to the sliding.

For anyone having trouble with Portal Man - when he pops out of the portal, jump towards him. Right as he hops you'll jump over the first bullet and miss the rest. Then turn around, hop over him when he slides, then hop or slide under his shot. Repeat.

Lambtaco responds:

It only has one boss because I actually wanted to actually release it, making a full Megaman game would take a year. One boss makes boss select moot. Portal blast isn't useless it goes through enemy shields, the weapons aren't just for bosses you know. I'm not sure I can make the controls more obvious than plastering them to the main menu. Having played all those Megaman games you should know that you have to pause to change weapons. There, I have justified all of your grievances.

It's actually Scat Spread. That way it implies a Scat Man. One day I may considering making a full game, but I have too much on my plate right now.

Looks better than Mega Man Universe...

But how hard is that, really? I mean, the graphics in that thing look like horse shit.

Seriously, though. I loved this. Very well put together Mega Man game. My only three gripes:

- Mega Man felt like he was falling a *little* bit too fast at times. The physics were off, slightly. Still competent, though. Never felt like the game was cheating.

- Full keyboard support would have been nice. Typically when I play stuff like this on the keys, I like the arrows for movement, but something a bit lower than A and S for action buttons, usually Z and X. And I usually assign the pause button to my Return key. Still, a minor gripe; it's not like you had to control with the Function keys or something.

- I know you said you only had about three weeks to work on it, but MORE LEVELS, man. You nailed the feel of the original MM games, mostly. It would have been nice to see something a bit bigger come from the engine you built.

Other than that, great job. A fun way to waste half an hour or so.

Lambtaco responds:

lol, a little harsh on MMU?
- Close enough that a lot of people couldn't tell the difference and that's good enough for me. I was playing MM2 when I was calibrating the physics. Personally I think the bullet speed is off more than the falling speed.
- Full keyboard support is something I've been putting off learning since forever. It's probably not even hard. I used to like ZX until I used a computer in Germany, they use a QWERTZ, and the only difference is that the Z and Y are reversed. Still, don't want to drive the Germans nuts.
- Maybe I'll build a full game one day. But right now I've got two Flash games I really need to finish before I start any more big projects. Three weeks is all I have to spare.

Jaw drops

Apart from veything in the game I came up with the mega tank man Idea
Oh well I guess someone was gonna do it eventually

Lambtaco responds:

You snooze you lose. Seems we had very differnt takes on what the sprite should look like.
