I've always loved tower defence games. I started playing them back in the day of Warcraft 3. I enjoyed them because they were fun, challenging, and for some reason, highly addictive.

The problem I found was that most tower defence games I played were missing some key features that would make them even more fun. Those missing features were :

- The ability to compete against others in tournaments where prizes can be awarded to the top players.
- Some sort of ranking system that allowed you to compare your skill against others.
- The ability to watch other peoples replays of their games so that you can improve as a player.
- New towers and other special ability's that can be used in game.
- The ability to create your own tower defence maps and tournaments for others to play in.
- The ability to turn on and off certain towers for each map for added challenge
- Some sort of community where people can interact, become friends and play together.

So, that's why I decided to make my own tower defence game. All the features above (and many others) have been added to BTGTD. Hopefully you'll find BTGTD fun, challenging, and slightly addictive (no one wants to be highly addicted to anything :)

The version you'll find uploaded here is the stand-alone version. It only has 9 maps and no tournament structure. For the full game (it's all free) visit www.beatthegeek.com

I hope you enjoy the game!

HOT KEYS :

S : to sell a tower
U : to upgrade a tower
P : to pause
1-7 : auto select a tower to build (1 being the pellet tower)
N : spawn next wave early
F : make volcano towers erupt

Amazing, though needs some beta testing.

As one who has always been fascinated with Defense[[to any outsiders, Defence may be spelled as Defense based on regional dialect,]] games, I can admit that you've thought about many things I haven't.

I can't even say all the plusses of this tower defense, you've thought of just about all the advice I give most people.

Thus, I'm gonna focus only on the negative in this post, in what is hopefully constructive criticism. Listing, and explaining, all the good attributes would cause this to exceed the limit...

-There isn't a great deal of balance. At the time of writing, I've tried many a strategy, and only one can get me several levels. I do understand, in this game, the necessity of changing strategies, but that's seemingly the only possibility. As an AVID defense gamist, I'll eventually find a way, I suppose. But most casual gamers won't see a thing about it. There is a 'That one level,' the first level in which creatures spawn in incredibly short succession.

-Graphics aren't the very best, but that is, of course, acceptable. Although, apart from descriptions, I can't really discern what I'm fighting...And thus, I don't know why I'm fighting it.

Suggestions:

An incredibly minor story line.

A "Super" tower, or two.

Increasing the time between levels, and the time before the first level.

Decreasing the health, or spawn rate, of some of the creatures, particularly that one level earlier described...

Still, the effort you put into this game surpasses words...

10/10,5/5

I'm going to continue trying to win...xD

P.S. The tournament idea was something I had never thought of, but an incredibly amazing idea. I'm in awe.

Stiff, way too hard, badly unbalanced.

Not really good, imho. Im usually decent at this kind of game but with yours i just cant get anything done.

Turrets are badly unbalanced in everything.

Map design make some turret types completely useless.
Map design often doesnt help to make maze, leaving useless empty spaces here and there.
Waves come in too fast and ennemies get boosted in power tooo fast, so unless you got the "perfect build", its an inevitable defeat waiting for us.

Powerups arent good enough.
Turret range for all turrets is too small, making the vast majority of turrets useless (since they are too short-ranged to do anything) until they are max level (too long)
Turrets cant make smart targeting decision (like, attack ennemy closest to core, or attack weak ennemies first)
Turret are very slow to react and fire at their target when it enter range.

Its just unbalanced to the point its not fun to play at all.

Very good and has High potential

Many great things about this game. Although, I do not like the idea of having such little time in between levels, particularly in the beginning.

Perhaps there could be a "survival mode" where there is no geek to beat..? That, in my perspective, would make it so much better.

to many enemies

overall great game just way to many enemies in the first few ways just no way to set up a good enough defense

That was very difficult

I felt it was nice to see another defense game and it was overall pretty original. I did, however, feel that it was simply too freaking hard as there were tons of enemies that came right from the beginning! No strategy seems to make me last for more than a few minutes! At least the enemies were designed pretty well and it did have different stages to play. I am so glad you tried to include some sort of guide for this. I will probably become addicted to it simply because I always do that with defense games.

ryanritten responds:

Good input. What i thought was easy might not be easy after all. I have played the game a few thousand times after all :)

Fortunately all these numbers are loaded from a database when the game starts, so i can make the game easier on my end if needed.

Thanks!
