The band "The Arkhams" commissioned me very nearly two years ago to do a cartoon for one of their instrumentals, which I can finally upload now that their new album is coming! It was described to me as "us in a bunch of old-timey kid's sailor suits fighting hordes of Lovecraftian monsters at a beach." Besides the #1 Dad (one of their own in-jokes) and some monsters from the Cthulhu Mythos, I designed all the other creatures you'll be seeing. This was my first time doing so much action and movement, much less a music video, and in the time since completing it I've learned to animate at least a little better, so keep in mind it's a bit LATE to critique this. Just let me know if you liked anything! I already know I could have relied less on tweens and symbols.

Any Lovecraft fan's instant favorite. Enjoyed The Arkhams and the depiction of The Great Old Ones.

Obviously inspired by the berserk graphic novel.

Awesome work but i ain't so sure about the ending.
Anyways it would be nice if you could actually do a berserk fan animation.
You have the demons down already. lol.

Scythemantis responds:

Actually, I've been drawing monsters in the same style my entire life. I didn't find out about Berserk until just a few years ago, but the creator and I definitely share the same tastes :) .....I think he's just inspired by the same things I am. A lot of our monsters combine traits from mollusks, insects, parasites and a little Lovecraft. I don't think I'd ever do a fan animation or fan art, I have so many ideas of my own to do, no time to make stuff based on other people's! :P

wierd, in a good way

the movie in itself seemed very strange to me, the monsters looked like they belonged in a twisted horrer setting, and the humans looked like they belonged in old Walt Disney cartoons from in the 50's. but even so, it was very impressive.

Scythemantis responds:

That was the intent, and something I also do in my other cartoons and comics; I make monsters more detailed and realistic, while humans and normal animals are cartoonish. It makes the monsters seem more horrific and weird in comparison, I think :D
