The band "The Arkhams" commissioned me very nearly two years ago to do a cartoon for one of their instrumentals, which I can finally upload now that their new album is coming! It was described to me as "us in a bunch of old-timey kid's sailor suits fighting hordes of Lovecraftian monsters at a beach." Besides the #1 Dad (one of their own in-jokes) and some monsters from the Cthulhu Mythos, I designed all the other creatures you'll be seeing. This was my first time doing so much action and movement, much less a music video, and in the time since completing it I've learned to animate at least a little better, so keep in mind it's a bit LATE to critique this. Just let me know if you liked anything! I already know I could have relied less on tweens and symbols.

Too much

The animation was good, i liked how you had drawn the monsters.
BUT! for my opinion it was too cruel. There is a shit loads of animations with this kinda cruelty, i think its just too much, and it is degrading... unless "The Arkhams" asked you to make it so :D

Scythemantis responds:

Yes, they did ask for over-the-top violence, though I honestly thought this was only mild cartoon gore. Crude, cartoony people killed by monsters in bizarre ways, and most of the gore/death happening to the monsters themselves anyhow.

Great

This made me recall the animation Dream Theater projected playing "Dark Eternal Night", only this one is 17+. I really liked it!

Very funny!

Very, very funny! The only down is that this should probably be rated 17+.

Scythemantis responds:

I didn't think any of the violence was really realistic enough for a mature rating...most of it happens to ridiculous monsters anyhow, besides the guy getting eaten by the flea really.

An Eldritch Thing Happend at the Beach Today.

One would never think that a surf-rock instrumental song would go well with a cartoon about Lovecraftian monsters from the deep being fought off by some cute blonde-haired kids using generic toys (e.g. yo-yos, jacks, chattering teeth), and yet the music from The Arkhams and the animation and art from Scythemantis make
this a dreadful match from the very bowels of R'lyeh itself (which is to say, that it was great).
