Excellent Flash game, and nearly flawless.

This solid platform shooter reminds me of a combination of Doom and Mega Man. Plotwise it resembles Doom, what with extra-dimensional monsters subverting the crew and technology of the ship. The play style is reminiscent of Mega Man in that your primary actions are jumping and shooting straight ahead, with the option to replay any completed stage at will. That latter part is an excellent way to prepare for future stages, as you are not penalized in any way for replaying an area in order to level-up.

The power-ups are placed in locations that makes them nearly impossible to miss, which is good. However the power-up that is arguably the most useful (the 3-way shot) is actually slightly off the main track, and it's quite possible to miss it if you're in a rush. This is a nice touch--it's not required to beat the game (I actually missed it my first time through) but it sure does make it a LOT easier.

The detail and sound effects were absolutely stellar, and the animation that plays when Sergei hallucinates is a great touch.

I did notice a couple of bugs in the game, that should be addressed. One is a game-breaker, the other is just annoying. First, the game-breaker:

SPOILER ALERT

When in the hallucination where the Messenger of the Light attempts to possess you, if you are already firing as you are running towards the conversation point, it will trigger Sergei's "NOOOOO!" line before the Messenger begins dialogue. This ends the dialogue before it starts, ends the hallucination early, and causes the "NOOOOO!" dialogue box to remain on the screen permanently. This locks your fire button, and makes it impossible to proceed until you abort the level and restart.

END SPOILER

The other annoying bug is that occasionally your left-right movement will switch up spontaneously for a brief moment, causing you to keep moving in one direction when you wanted to turn around. This seems to be most prolific during very busy battles (which, of course, is when it is at its most annoying). It might be a bug in the code, or it might be my system (Linux Mint, Firefox 3.6.7). Thought I'd report it anyway.
