Dong Ap Bia, South Vietnam. May 1969. The 187th Infantry Regiment of the United States 101st Airborne Division is selected to be one of three battalions to carry out Operation Apache Snow in an extensive effort by the U.S. to wipe out the bases of the People's Army of Vietnam in A Shau Valley. The 187th consists of a colorful mix of characters--old seasoned vets from Korea and WWII, bold new recruits ready to take on any adversary for their country, shaky reluctant newbies who would rather die before firing a gun...They were all present in this regiment, and each of them made up a morsel of the blood pudding of diversity found in just about every division of the United States military.
However, the 187th Infantry in particular is about to grow even more divided than it currently is in wake of being assigned to directly assault Ap Bia Mountain (referred to by U.S. command as "Hill 937") in the mysterious, jungle-shrouded region of South Vietnam. Though the decision for full-on, direct assault is seen by many within the U.S. and the world over as vile and potentially disastrous, the military chooses to carry it out in hopes of posing a severe hindrance to the North Vietnamese Army and its affiliates.
Even before the battle initiates, the crew of the 187th Infantry begins to experience dramatically increased levels of in-fighting and arguments, and several of the members start to deeply question the motivations behind Operation Apache Snow, wondering if the inevitable shades of carnage, anarchy, and distrust will all be worth it.
Witness a May week in Vietnam slowly descend into agonizing hell...
