The official music video for "The Faster the Treadmill" by I Fight Dragons!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Commentary:
I began work on this shortly after completing Grumatorium, and it was a pretty intense project. The band utilizes a lot of game controllers and NES era material into their music and performances so I approached this video from a similar perspective, starting by designing and animating gameplay from a fictional 8-bit game that the video would take place in.
The result was "the Adventures of Puddlenaut," in which a shark-armed diver hero does battle with deep sea creatures in order to mine mystical power crystals that are abundant in the underwater kingdom. The main grunt enemies, one of which is the protagonist of the video, were modeled after drowned fetuses since I couldn't find any deep sea creatures to fit the image I was looking for. Thus I ended up calling the main character "Fetusaur" throughout production.
Great as always, BQ
I must say I really like the BQ art style - it seems to touch the inner, childish playfulness that exists within all of us while being very deep at the same time. It reminded me strongly of your earlier video, "Perform". The message, if I'm interpreting it correctly, is about having dreams while the world is always trying to tell you what you're supposed to be - and who has been more typecast and one-sided than the 8-bit enemy mook? It was well done, and you have to feel sorry for the little guy, since he could never come out of hiding to meet the one he admires the most for fear of being killed on sight... Though I was expecting him to help Puddlenaut defeat the final boss, and either be thanked (if the video was optimistic) or killed anyway (if it was pessimistic), not... pop out of the TV...?
That being said, a SHARK for an arm is without a doubt the coolest weapon ever.
man
Your first vid was like, "oh this is kinda cool how he does it". Now it's just like wtf, how does he have this much time and skill to do this kind of stuff. Great job, it must take a lot of effort drawing everything out. The animation it self was enjoyable, I liked the back and forth between watching the game and then watching from like the characters perspective. keep it up brah!
