Well, it's better than anything I could make, but I just can't help but think that this game is just plain lacking in substance. It's overly repetitive, plain, and does not even come near the level of the actual, more dated retro games on which it is based. It's empty, and I just can't make myself like it enough to shower it with praise.
Perhaps it's just a start, but this really needs a lot of work.
Game was pretty much boring to play, there is nothing new about this that I haven't seen before. Plus the Medals were too difficult for anyone to obtain.
The controls were a bit too awkward and, if it was truly possible, a bit TOO responsive. I managed to 'accidentally' wall jump back off a ledge or a platform more times than I can count. That and the lack of any real story kind of ruined the experience for me.
Unusually bad edge detection
Unfortunately, there is a growing trend of "pixelated" platformers that all suffer from horrible edge detection. Next Action Frog comes to mind. Interestingly enough, these games all come with medals that require you not to die, making the edge detection & control issues that much more frustrating.
Since it's a simple game, poor mechanics lead to a very unmemorable experience.
