Note: This is the official release to Newgrounds of the Game stolen a few days ago by someone pretending to be me :( , if you've already played it, please vote how you liked it, though you should now play it with it's proper aspect ratio, it's much better :D

The idea behind this game was to push how large of a single Movieclip I could make each level, and in the process pay tribute to my absolute favourite game on the PS2, Shadow of the Colossus, which hopefully will be seeing an HD re-release on PS3 soon!

Play as a mysterious Pale Man of the North in a quest to rid the Kingdom of a most unusual plague, and in the process win the throne to the empire!

I hope you enjoy this little cinematic style game, I've really tried to squeeze the atmosphere in. Featuring music from Duncan Fenn of The Red Swan Hotel, which you should defintely check out in the link to the side and the as usual brilliant http://www.Incompetch.com

awsome

I really really liked your style the way you constructed your levels they seem like normal dungenos at first but in the end you get this massive creature. it was an amazing exprience. i would suggest you work on your character a little bit i mean come on a dude that is always praying when he is not doing anything. i would also like to complement the roar that makes the whole screen tremble. well with that said my review is done keep up the magnificent work

It reminds me of something

Very Shadow of the Colossus, which is a game I greatly enjoy. Some of the leaps are difficult to figure out, but that's the point of a game right? To make you think a little. The animation is beautiful and fits well with the story. I, personally, don't have any complaints.

The-EXP responds:

Awesome thanks. SOTC is probably one of my fave games of all time.

Very good.

Although I do have a few complaints, none of them are heavy enough to affect my score. Because I like to start off with the negatives and end on a positive note, I'll list my small complaints. For one, the animation of the player character was rather awkward, and I really didn't understand why, right as you stopped he'd just go into his "praying" pose. I think it'd have been a bit more understandable if you had him stand normally while platforming, but while scouting had him go into that pose. I have no idea what you were going for with that, however, so it probably has some meaning I'm not picking up. Speaking of scouting, I did not enjoy having to do that so often, and the screen seemed very cramped either way. If you held the button down while moving, it'd zoom back in, which was an annoyance to me. The last small issue I had was the health bar, or instead of how much it wasn't used in it's presence. The only things that can harm you kill you in one hit, so it seemed having a large healthbar was meaningless, especially with the lack of killable enemies. It'd have been cool to use your blade more than thrice...

While I don't see myself coming back to this, I found this to be a blast first time through. I really enjoyed the level design, so you succeeded in your mission there. I was filled with bliss every time I beat the level and saw the huge image of the monsters we were killing. I caught onto the Shadow of the Colossus thing immediately, and it made me giggle. With that, the cinematic feel went great with the premise of the game, and I applaud you for it. While the ending seemed a bit abrupt, it was very satisfying, and I can't imagine being able to pull this game off if it were even the slightest bit longer. The story did not seem to have to many holes... I guess because it wasn't really complicated or large, but I'm not complaining. I found it kind of odd when the dying King was screaming orders on his death bed, whereas he should be very weak, dying and all. Many of the newer games being uploaded are having symbolistic "messages", and this game was able to have some sort of thing like that without being pretentious. I liked most of the art, with the exception of the protagonist of the story, and some of the bits of the cutscenes...

All in all, I liked this game. 5/5, 10/10.

Awesome review, thanks.
To address the awkward animation, early on I was using a more cartooney run cycle and canned jump pose, but part way through I thought it woudl eb cool to include a semi awkward jump in, to make it look like he was really putting effort into jumping, and I think that came out well. The run coudl have been a bit smoother perhaps, and the crounching was relaly to make it seem like he was tryign to keep grip. I'm glad you enjoyed playing overall, and thanks for putting in so much time with a review :D
