In the 1066 game you get to control the English, Viking or Norman armies. The aim of the game is to defeat your enemy's army by killing or scaring off as many of them as possible! The game puts you into the thick of the action, giving you direct control over every arrow barrage, cavalry charge and defensive stand. Taunts, chants and the presence of a strong leader will all prove crucial to winning the day.

A multiplayer option also offers the chance to test your mettle against friends.

If the game is running slowly for you, try right clicking and changing the quality to 'medium' or 'low'. This should help improve performance.

For full instructions, click on the 'How to Play' section of the game.
Moving and Attacking the Enemy
Selecting the 'Move' command allows you to select a new position for your unit. The highlighted area indicates your unit's range of movement. Different units can move different distances.
The Battle Unfolds
Once you have selected your commands, hit the 'EXECUTE COMMANDS' button and all the actions are played out in the Battle View. You will need to keep your wits about you, as you will be thrown into different mini-games which will determine the outcome of the round.
Click and drag your mouse on the battlefield to select the power and angle of your archer attack - then let go to rain arrow down on your enemy.
When two opposing units are next to each other, combat will occur. Hit the cursor keys at the right time to inflict brutal damage on your enemy.
Type the insult as quickly as possible to rally your troops and scare your enemy into submission.
When a unit is charging tap the space-bar as quickly as possible to build up power and smash through your enemy.
The morale of your army is incredibly important in the game, so keep a close eye on the ARMY MORALE in the info panel. Keeping your morale high and reducing that of your enemy will be the key to victory.

Really liked what I've seen so far.

I plan on favoriting this game for several reasons. The graphics are nce to look at, theyre simple and a little stylized but portray the lvl of troops (depth) and type very well and is neat to watch anyways. The sound is good for the most part, the taunting voice doesn't come off like a 250 pound warrior screaming hate, but gets the point across. The gameplay itself is interesting as well, its fun to come up with your own strategy and see how it stacks up to the norm. Only issue I've had so far is the ability for the taunt to change the outcome of a battle numerically going in your favor. Lost a battle with 1000 more troops felled because their archers called me a dog turd from 200 yards away. Overall great game and I will be plaing it more. Thanks.

Great game

In multiplayer it's historically accurate so it goes like this:

Vikings vs. English, English win

English vs. Normans, Normans win

Vikings vs. Normans, Winner Unknown

The game helps you win if you are on the side that actually won in 1066 by correcting slight misses on arrow storms etc.

Honestly, this game easily surpasses the WARFARE 1917 and 1944 games, the multiplayer support is a very nice add-on. The only area I think the game could improve on is the graphics, I kinda dislike the fact that the people and horse are silhouettes. Otherwise this game is just shear amazing, and this is a FLASH game?

Ridiculously good for a free game!

for a sequel though a lot could be done to make it better. maybe the mechanics for morale could be changed as the taunt function is annoying. Also it would be nice if the battlefiels was much wider then just add more terrain at random or as needed. and if possible, maybe units can attack from the sides and formation can be made facing different directions.

All in all this is one heckuva good engine for a full fledged game!
