4.02 / 5.00 43,673 ViewsHi, Newgrounds. I thought I would never have to say that, but long time no see. Anyway, many sleepless months went into making this one, so I really hope you like it.
So what is it about, you may ask? Well, what can possibly be more fun than chess pieces that come to life to beat the snot, blood and brains out of each other.
The game is entirely mouse operated.
In case you mess up, you can always "undo turn".
Can you see all 50 animations? The hardest ones to achieve are the best, for instance the king is badass when killing an enemy. If you click on the "executions" button in the main menu it tells you which ones you've seen and which ones you haven't.
I spent some time creating an entertaining in-game "chess rules" section, which thoroughly explains all the rules of the game on 14 pages. Hopefully, beginner and intermediate players will find it useful.

Fun to play and to watch
It's a good game for a classic chess game but it's fun.
The animation idea is good but they are too repetitive.
You should improve the AI because this is very easy and you should also put multiplayer on this thing... it would be very good

Nice
I love chess and I love battle chess, what it could benefit from is a multiplayer mode both on same machine and two on different computers.
Is that audio from warcraft I or II??

Good game
I enjoyed playing this game. The animations are well done and the artwork is cartoonish enough to avoid being too gorey. Some of the "executions" are pretty comical as well. I also like the choice of music at the end of the game.
I did not like the sound effects incident to selecting a piece. They could be removed without affecting the overall quality. I also am unable to castle.
Otherwise, it is a pretty good opponent: not too tough and not too easy. I'm eight and two. About half of those wins were courtesy the "undo" button, a handy feature.

not bad
i thought the engine was ok not bad. animations were good, it would be better if the animations were incorporated within the chess board itself rather than having to go to a new screen. How cool that would look. Also the "skip" button was missing in some of the animations and i was forced to watch the anima over and over again :(

You were right-
-in that the computer doesn't give up. I spent an entire hour chasing the enemy king around with a rook, checking every turn, and the AI just kept nudging the king around. It was practically unwinnable, with a guarantee that if the situation happened IRL it'd be at the very least a stalemate by time. Other than that, very fun to strategize. The rook's Jeep animations are entertaining, as well.
