This is the gameplay demo of Aidan's Wonder!

UPDATE Jan 04, 2011:
Work and other obligations have pushed back the release of Aidan's Wonder; it's been tough getting in time on it, but I'm going to push to get it finished as early as possible in 2011. I've added a couple new screenshots on aidanswonder.com.

Aidan's Wonder is a game that will put you in the role of a young child's imaginary friend. Together, you can go out in exploration of his backyard and the wild beyond in search of treasures, friendships and adventure.

This demo features only one room, Aidan's bedroom. He's been tasked by his mom with cleaning up his toys before he can go out. Of course, it isn't THAT easy..

Similar to a point-and-click game, but more than that - control Aidan with the WASD keys to navigate the landscape, and use the mouse as his imaginary friend to interact with both Aidan and the environment. Simply clicking objects doesn't always work; if you want to open a window, grab hold and slide it open. If you want to open a door, grab the handle and pull it open.. and so on.

Visit www.aidanswonder.com for updates as they come. Full game will be released sometime 2010.

And hey -
Email any comments / suggestions to aidanswonder@gmail.com if you could, I'm hoping to incorporate as much feedback and ideas into the final game as possible! Thanks-

Very interesting.

I love the art. Standing still makes it look like i'm staring at a story book. I love the music as well, its realaxing and calming and matches everything wonderfully.

I also really like how sarcastic the character is. Throwing the toys out the window and seeing him saying "Great..." put a smile on my face. I hope to see more dry humor like that in the final version.

I don't quite understand the point to make him hold objects. Perhaps its to give other characters items?

I like how there are multiple ways of solving a single puzzle. Throwing the toys out the window or putting them in the chest. It gives it a "choose your own story" kinda vibe that I really like. I hope to see these actions affecting the game. Like mom getting either getting mad I threw the toys out the window, or happy that I did what I was told.

I am really looking forward to the final version of this.

Seriously, the art is awesome.

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it,

The point of giving Aidan items to hold may not be evident in the demo, but it will make more sense in the full version. One example of this is where you dig something up with a shovel; after digging, you must hand the shovel to Aidan to hold while you inspect the hole you've made.

OMG!

WOW!
This looks AMAZING! My imagination is running wild with what this game will be like..the art and music are great, control scheme is genius..what more could I ask for in an adventure game? I also loved the idea of being able to do tasks in different way (a.i. throwing toys out of window) - I really hope these kind of actions will actually influence the outcome of the game.
I noticed a bug that once you replay the demo - the hat disappears if you wore it in the first gameplay.

One thing which bugged me a bit, was how you got out of the room using the pipe..it seemed quite a violent action for such a calm game, somewhat out of place with the general theme of things.
Unless you decide on taking a turn with things which I'm missing from the introductory demo (a.i. having the kid and his imaginary friends becoming serial killers..), I'd stick to a more realistic down-to-earth approach with puzzles.
Having a kid (or his imaginary friend) take out a loose pipe from the floor and smash the door knob..just seems out of place.
Anyway, hope to see the full game soon!

Thanks for the detailed response, and glad you enjoyed it! Good to see you found a couple of the little extras too,

I struggled quite a bit with how Aidan would find his way out of his room.. most logical scenario to me would be simply knocking until his mom came to help, but that would make it a little less challenging. I can promise though that in the full game, you won't be going around killing anyone!
