I wanted to make something for Pico day this year. Here's a small game that originally me, and Lochie started, but he bailed cuz he sucked. So Andrew (Archer) took over and we finished the game up :P Was originally gonna be a level by level beat em up, but people suck (lochie). HAPPY PICO DAY!

Its a really small game :S pick up and play for a bit :P Hope you enjoy

Classic Arcade Game Inspired?

It really was what it was, simple and short. But it really reminded me of the arcade games I used to play, the side-scrolling, beat-em-up action with 2 player co-op with a seemingly endless wave of thugs... and... bigger... thugs...

Next time IF you make a sequel, or this sort of game again, I bet it'd be great if you actually put in some boss fights, more characters to choose from, combo upgrades and item pick ups within the levels, like a big chainsaw. Also a story, stories are nice.

Anyway, it was a nice concept and its not like it was supposed to turn out this way anyhow. So lets just say that it was alright, but could be way better.

Could have been much more

1) There's one attack button that you hammer until he uppercuts. Do that twice to kill all the bad guys.
2) There's only two types of bad guys. Really small guys and really big dudes, but... they have the same hitpoints? Seriously?
3) As other reviewers have said, it's very, very repetitive. With an attack that you spam and two types of baddies that really are exactly the same for all intents and purposes, not much variety.
4) The backgrounds were really thrown together and the scale's way off.
5) The hit/collision detection is really jacked up. When you get surrounded and start getting hit, your only defense is using your super... a Hagar/Zangief style double-lariat. When trying to get away by moving up or down, you just continue to get hit even if the enemies are nowhere near where they should have to be to hit you.
6) No bosses. With just wave after wave of the same two bad guys... what's the point?
7) No levels. I wanted to note in this review what level I got to, but I honestly have no idea as it's not noted between boards.

Where are the jump attacks? Where are the rage outs? Where are the chainsaws? Where's the gore? I know you mentioned that due to someone dropping out (Lochie, because he sucks) this game isn't what you wanted it to be. I'm sure you had much grander plans for it than this, but unfortunately this is really just a missed opportunity. When I saw another Dad game, I was really excited.

Good stuff:
Title and end game art -- Excellent. Very well done. You did a great job of capturing the Dad look and feel.
Music -- I'm not sure what it's from, but it sounds very Capcomy and fits the game very well. Is it Double Dragon III?
Sound effects -- Big points for using Double Dragon II sounds... that was slick.

Great stuff

It is what it is. Gonzo pointed out that this isn't supposed to be anything more than a small game that you just pick up and play for a little bit. If you take it for what it is then it's a great little Pico themed game.
