Addictively challenging

I've come to find that there are two categories that tricky games often fall into - good frustrating and bad frustrating. The bad frustrating games are the ones that, after I die for what is likely the hundredth time, leave me thinking "ARRGGH THIS FREAKING GAME!" and then I ragequit. The good ones, on the other hand, leave me thinking "ARRGGH THIS FREAKING GAME! I was so close! I have to try again!" Hippolyta is definitely in the latter category. My "just one more try" often extends into "ten more tries" without me even noticing.

The graphics are beautiful and the music and voice work is superb (I love the narrator's voice, as well as the harrgbbllrbl noise the Hoplites make as I trample them) which really sets the atmosphere and helps to take it beyond a basic reflex game. The gameplay itself is incredibly smooth and, while challenging, has a decent learning curve and is easy to pick up on.

I can't really think of anything negative to point out, except that there have been several moments where I had longed for pause button, though I can understand why a game like this wouldn't have one. Checkpoints might be nice, but it adds to the challenge, I suppose. I also have some issues with consistently pulling off front arrow blocks when coming out of high obstacle dodging, but that's likely just operator error on my part. I'm sure that somewhere along the hundred more attempts I will undoubtedly have of this game (and the hundred+ deaths that go with it) I will figure it out.

Excellent job. Wonderful game.
