Bongo Boom Battlegrounds is a strategy game inspired by Patapon for the Sony PSP. Customise your army, choose a mission, then lead them into battle using a drum-based control scheme to give commands. Along the way you will encounter an 18 chapter storyline, a variety of enemy soldiers and several large bosses to defeat!

One of the reasons I created this was because it was really HARD looking for a Patapon-type game for the PC, so I made my own: the general style and control scheme may be borrowed from Patapon, but the story, artwork, and other game mechanics are entirely my own. I hope you will enjoy it, and have fun! Feedback is most welcome...

Instructions to play can be found in the game, everything is controlled by the arrow keys and spacebar.

Additional note: Thanks for all the comments, everyone! I hope you all had fun with the game. I've taken note of the more constructive suggestions and criticisms, and am currently working on the sequel... as for those who still feel it's too much of a patapon ripoff, then i sincerely apologize! it was never meant to be a 100% ripoff, i just really liked the idea of using drumbeats to control an army... so i made my own version of it. :)

PATAPON IDEA!

PATA-PATA-PATA-PON!! Well , the idea isn't original, but you make a good conversion , thats why i give you a 8 and my grats for the conversion

Not bad at all

Really good game and concept, execution was good, but it does have it shares of flaws here and there. Mostly timing of the commands. Perhaps its because of bad connection but I never seem to get a good combo going past 3. Rather annoying. But in the end the rhythm based commands are rather neat and original.

Wow

I just watched the Tutorial and started playing. Thank you for the in depth tutorial of the game, and kudos for putting so much effort and thought into making such a cool game. I know I'm really going to enjoy it

Its alright

It was a good game for a PC version of Patapon. I enjoyed it and played through the whole game though I found the ending a bit disappointing but still a pretty good game.

Pretty good, little easy, noticed some flaws.

As soon as I was able I ended up with 2 archers, 2 swordsman, and 1 spearman. These I kept throughout the game to the end. After a few missions I kept fighting for food, and did battle in those side missions with towers for wood. I upgraded my men, and then continued on to fight monsters, until my soldiers were all upgraded to Elites. After that, I had no reason to change my soldiers to the Tier 1, 2, or 3 soldiers. I beat the game with my original 5 guys. I assume that it would have been harder if they were not all Elites, though it seems like there should have been more levels, or at least that the ones available should have been more difficult, forcing me to upgrade from the basic three soldiers (peasants don't count :P). Also it kind of made me mad that I couldn't go back and keep playing with the completed file. I was hoping there would be beefed up enemies I could fight, maybe a new game +? At least allow me to go back to any level in the story, and change my units up :/

It was fun, although I got a bit antsy when I realized I could not really stop playing unless I wanted to risk forgetting the move combinations required to do anything in battle. It would be good to have somewhere to look them up.

I also didn't like how when being given briefings, or just listening to people talk, you couldn't skip the dialog when finished reading, instead you were forced to wait what seemed to be about 3-5 seconds. All you could do was press space to reveal all the text, and hope you read it all in time before it goes to the next text bubble. It would be best if we could choose when the next text appears, by making us have to press space to change it, once it's fully revealed, or have an option between it automatically changing, and us manually changing to the next text bubble.

Now for a summary of things that could be added. There could be more music throughout the game. The difficulty could be higher. More levels. Perhaps an online multiplayer? More types of units, perhaps spells. special one/multiple use disposable items? Equipment for each type of unit could be interesting. Some kind of extra challenges after the main story is over, that would force you to upgrade to stronger units. Maybe expanding the necessary resources beyond food, wood, money, and gems? Unique recources could be required for specific units.

Considering this is your first flash on this site (not sure what your prior experience is), and the very small file size, this deserves an 8 from me. Good game.
