Bongo Boom Battlegrounds is a strategy game inspired by Patapon for the Sony PSP. Customise your army, choose a mission, then lead them into battle using a drum-based control scheme to give commands. Along the way you will encounter an 18 chapter storyline, a variety of enemy soldiers and several large bosses to defeat!

One of the reasons I created this was because it was really HARD looking for a Patapon-type game for the PC, so I made my own: the general style and control scheme may be borrowed from Patapon, but the story, artwork, and other game mechanics are entirely my own. I hope you will enjoy it, and have fun! Feedback is most welcome...

Instructions to play can be found in the game, everything is controlled by the arrow keys and spacebar.

Additional note: Thanks for all the comments, everyone! I hope you all had fun with the game. I've taken note of the more constructive suggestions and criticisms, and am currently working on the sequel... as for those who still feel it's too much of a patapon ripoff, then i sincerely apologize! it was never meant to be a 100% ripoff, i just really liked the idea of using drumbeats to control an army... so i made my own version of it. :)

That was fun

I'm sure you love the Patapon-type game. But I think you need more different form the original one. May be new graphic style(such as the realism troops). The game was fun,but it's same with the original game too much.

Awesomely Perfectionist

Love this game. Im a big fan of these kind of games and its nice to see someone step into the genre on Newgrounds. I felt like the the beat indicator was a bit off at times, or that the timing window was entirely too small, I could not chain any hits and sets would stop after one or two beats.

Too picky

The tutorial was way too picky. You had to be right on. Just make it a little less picky and it would be fine.

Alright.

The game is quite good, I like the concept and the graphics, what I don't really like is that the game is too short, there arent many features, Tier 1 creatures are actually better than Tier 2 and 3 (balancing issues?), a few bugs, plain backgrounds and no secrets/achievements/medals to make it more worthwhile. The game has great potential.
I would love if a more complex version of this game would come out, with more features, longer/better story, voiceacting?, maybe RPG features for the flagbearer and even the units, "Champions" (unique headunits which you unlock along the way based on plot decissions that swear allegiance to you and help you lead your army), more customization... and the list goes on.
With a bit of work and some collaboration with other talented people you can sell this game :D

Concept: Good (even though its just a Patapon adaptation, its still different and that is what counts)
Graphics and animation: OK (more interesting backgrounds please)
Complexity: Meh...

Make a BBbg2 and I'll be a happy lad.
