This is the story of the last of the dashkin. The people are all gone and in a world of innocent animals, the solitude, the sadness and bitterness have corrupted his view of life. What does the future hold for such a tragic creature? Will he wander the planet, forever alone until his death? Will he always be the wild King of Brackenwood?

It's a massive honour to be nominated for a 2nd Tank Award, thanks NG! Thank you for front page, all the great reviews and the incredible score for Daily Feature.
Thanks to Brackenwood fans and donors for all the support not only during the 4 weeks I spent making this, but also in the 2 years since I submitted Waterlollies.

Since then I've been working on the Brackenwood feature film outline with my good friend Ryan O'Loughlin. With no plans for a new web episode in the meantime it occurred to me that Brackenwood fans could be waiting years for the feature. I didn't want to abandon them altogether, so this new movie is my way of staying in touch with them and the NG audience.

This is the first Brackenwood short to break away from the "character introduction" style movies that had little or no character motivation and plot. This is a story, not only answering a lot of questions, but asking just as many new ones.

I used Flash CS3, the .fla is over 300MB (half of that is audio) and it took me 4 weeks.
Don't worry I won't be leaving it another 2 years. I plan on starting storyboards on the conclusion in jan-feb 2010.

Few words

Quite empty. The technique of animation is marvelous, but the story plot suffer from a lack of contenu.

Awe inspiring

Every so often, a flash video comes along that makes you forget everything that you were thinking about or working on that makes you focus upon it. "The Last of the Dashkin" may be one of those flashes. Every progressive second of this wonderful piece of flash artwork, indulges the mind in a feast for the eyes.

The crisp art style has to be immediately spoken of. The artwork used by Adam Philips has always gotten progressively better with each flash movie he makes. This one has all of his skills and expertise perfectly executed into a movie. Each part of the landscape adds more personality to the mysterious world that is Brackenwood. The atmosphere holds a mixture of serenity that few places hold and a subtle mix of mystery and the unknown. Animation is as fluent and crisp as ever. Each movement of the characters shares a realistic flaw which ads more to the personality of each of them. Not one creature appears or reacts similar to the last, which makes the world of Brakenwood that much more diverse.

Brakenwood has slowly gone from an unknown piece to eventually growing into a massive spectacle of artistic beauty. This movie is no exception to those rules; consistantly raising the bar for flash movies. Congratulations on the completion of this piece and I hope to see more in the future.

Good to know you liked it. Even now there is a lot of Brackenwood that needs to be explored, not only in physical terms like terrain, weather and phenomena, but also in terms of characters and their history. Thanks for this great review :)

Pure Art Once More

As expected, you have made art out of Flash animating. A fantastic beginning to the backstory of Bitey, our favorite jerk of the forest. Lovely animation, fantastic music, great narration and I will eagerly look forward to the next part. Keep up the wonderful job, friend.

Most Sincerely,
