UPDATE:
Game version updated following the feedback of Newgrounds users. The game is focused on making combos, if you don't make combos you won't be able to level up.
There is enabled cheat key codes from 1 to 8 to make combos, these combos won't work to Level Up.

If you love to make key combos playing games like King Of Fighters, Art of Fighting, Street Fighter, MUGEN... with emulators (NeoGeo, MAME) in your computer you will love the game, it's accessible, the controls are perfectly synchronized, smooth and fluent gameplay. In other case, you will hate it, because it gets a some time until you perfect your skills making key combos.

The users who liked my original design can still enjoy in zombie-baseball dot com.

"2 for effort, 1 for the idea"

date: October 22, 2009

First off, the overall idea of the game seems fun, just want to give you that.

Alright, now I'm not expecting you to take this nicely anyway, so I'm not gonna be very nice about it.

I played through the first level of this game, and was done after that.

The lines were kind of weird. Anytime I wanted to stop, there was no way to, and I'd end up getting stuck in a pile of zombies. Also, didn't really seem to be any point in the lines if you could just spam baseballs, maybe you could put a limit to the amount of baseballs you have.. that would make the player more inclined to use the combos. You should probably just remove the whole line idea, and have a button swing the bat instead, and don't make it spam-able of course. That or redo the lines, and think of a better way.

The hostages look like they were going to back me up, yet didn't do crap. I know I only played first level, but if you didn't have them help at all, maybe should choose a different image for that.

The animation in this game was horrible. It seemed like it was just thrown together so it'd barely work for the game. Really needs smoothing, and more frames need to be added, maybe try some easing also. Not much of an animation if there are 2 images just slapped together. Even tho that can look okay in some games, but it didn't suit this one very well.

The graphics weren't too bad themselves, if they had been animated better, that could have been a better part of the game.

Game play was very disappointing. I gave one point for the idea, because it seems like it could turn out to be a fun game. The jumping really didn't seem to have a point aside from the combos, and if that's all it was for.. you should just have the combo's jump themselves, instead of bitching about it not being a platformer. The zombies were really boring. All they ever did was walk up slowly and then eat you. I noticed you mentioned that is because they are stupid zombies. True, but a lot of zombie games like Left 4 Dead, or Resident Evil have a variety in their zombies. A single enemy with no variation causes the game to get old very quickly. Maybe add a zombie that runs at you quickly? Or one that is impervious to baseballs, at least SOME sort of variety.

When I started this game, I added my points, but noticed, there was no way to reverse where I had spent my points. That can be very annoying to some people. They might lag and click more than once, and end up screwing up how they wanted to actually spend their points.

"Perfect Controls"... not so much. Even in games that are fun, controls can be hardly ever credited "perfect". Aside from that tho, they weren't even good. They are way to stiff and jerky, really uncomfortable to play. Instant movement isn't bad, but there seemed to be a conflict when landing then trying to move to one side.

There was no tutorial. Sometimes people don't put a tutorial option on the menu, and then have it automatically start when you start a new game, or ask if you want one. But if you aren't going to be very clear about how to do things like selecting a bat that you've unlocked, then you should at least add a tutorial. I had unlocked a new bat, and there was no way to use it. Unless that became available between levels.. but I wasn't going to wait to find out. Also, when I tried to check if the pause button had a menu I could select the bat from, I couldn't even do that, I had to click outside the game to actually hit the pause button.

I gave you 2 points for effort. This was because, you successfully finished a game with an original idea, not an easy thing to do.

Well I hope you take some of this into consideration, but highly doubt you will. Seriously, critique may be pretty harsh at times, but you should always consider the person's point. Going back and making a stupid reply that only contains whining and bitching isn't anyway to deal with a critique. Figured a 33 year old would know this but I guess acting like a little bitch is the mature thing to do.

Author's Response:

Yes, you are right, "I'm not gonna be very nice about it"...
Again, talking only having played the first level... Well, just read the reply that I wrote to the previous guy.

Anyway, I feel a challenge to change the game controls and just give you want some of what you are talking... I will get rid of the likes, I will get rid of the sub-level ups, the combos will be all unlocked from the beginning, and there will be shortcuts for the people who doesn't like combos.

"....No. Just no."

Dude, quit being a whiny bitch when people don't like your game. You're being rude to the people HONESTLY reviewing the game and giving it critique, instead of accepting the critique, genuinely thanking them, and moving on with your life. One or two bad reviews/scores is not going to make nobody ever play your game, quit acting like it's the end of the world. Also, just because YOU have an opinion on something (such as your controls being "perfectly adjusted" like you said a few reviews ago,) does not mean it's true. LISTEN to your reviewers, don't shrug off the ones giving critique and embrace those giving you high marks with open arms, that's the exact OPPOSITE attitude you should take.

As for the actual game, I didn't enjoy it, at all.
The controls are horrendous (particularly for the drawing movement, and don't pull that "DON'T USE THE LINES" bullshit on me, if you don't want people to use them, DON'T PUT THEM IN THE GAME,) and there's no fun to be had in the gameplay, especially early on, which is when you're supposed to draw your audiences attention and let them know it's worth it to keep playing. I never got that feeling from this game, it started out boring and ended boring when I quit.

The graphics are fine for the most part, but the animations are bad, at best. They're smooth sometimes, yes, but they're obviously just cheap tweens instead of something with actual effort put into it, like frame by frame animation. Animation is a MAJOR part of the game, your audience will be looking at it through the entire game of course, so you need to put more effort into making things look good.

I didn't have my computer volume up very high when playing, but from what I heard, the sound effects were nothing special. The little "wahoo" yell he would do every time you got something special got annoying fast.

Frankly, the gameplay was abysmal. You can move. You can jump. You can draw where you want him to move. You can throw a baseball. That's a fairly decent set of moves, you would think.. Too bad the game's design is made so that some of the moves feel utterly useless or boring. The detection for drawing is AWFUL, and the fact that he continues moving to the end of the line even after you let go of the mouse was a terrible idea. He should stop moving the moment you release the mouse button. More than half of the time I even TRIED to draw a line, he would walk too damn far, stop moving from "tiredness," and get raped by a group of zombies.
The level I played was designed in a way that jumping was useless. There was nothing to jump up onto, no alternate paths you could take my taking a higher route, there was really no point to the jumping. The only keys you need in this game seem to be WSAD and mouse click. Sure, that's not bad, having simple controls, but if you are going to have simple controls, make them GOOD.
The enemies are stupid with no variety aside from graphically and the amount of health they have - that's not variety, that's recycling and calling it variety. All they ever do is walk towards you, and if they get close enough, grab you and do what zombies do. Maybe that would work if the gameplay was actually fun in any other aspects, but it wasn't. Every aspect of gameplay was sluggish and boring, and this is the meat of the game - Gameplay is the number one aspect of a game, and honestly, you failed at this part most of all.

Now, honestly, I only played the first level, so I didn't get to experience the game fully, but as a gamer, I would not want to play this game any more than I did, and you can't expect me to fully review a game I didn't enjoy in the very least bit, do you? If you want people to rate the game on the content later on, try and make it halfway interesting near the beginning, or you'll lose peoples interest, and points, fast.

2/10. Abysmal in every category, aside from the graphics, which were at least halfway decent.

Author's Response:

First thanks for taking so long time to write.

I agree with you in several points:
1.The beginning could be frustrating this spoils all the experience and left no desire to the player to go beyond. I recognize this mistake.
2. In theory, I should welcome all the comments.

Well, let's do a list of points where I disagree with you:

1- With what permission can you put a comment when you just have played only the first level? If you are trying to look like a professional reviewer at least don't say that you only played one level.

2- The controls are perfect. If you dare to take a look to the video trailer of the game in my post (you will see how it can be controlled perfectly). It's truth that the concept of the protagonist getting tired because he has drawn all the lines is confusing, but you have to draw the lines carefully so you don't use all your energy to be captured by the zombies.

3- Try to take a look in the genre of the game, it says :"Action - Fighting - Brawler ", this is not a platform game it's a brawler game, and you can jump, you can use the "Super-Jump" combo to finish with a "Fall Attack" to blow up all the zombies around you.

4- The enemies are brainless zombies, and the game is based in smashing the zombies making combos. Did you expect to play with enemies with the artificial inteligence "Call Of Duty"?

5- You are right, the gameplay is the first point to consider of the game, but the gameplay here is not the problem, the problem is that I've not been able to explain how to play. I repeat the gameplay is perfectly balanced, but again I've failed to explain the system. Just try to take a look at the video trailer in the author "Urkel", I hope that it won't be too difficult for you to find my page in Newgrounds and then press the button to play the movie.... ah... yes, try to watch all the movie. I know that your time is precious, but maybe you can sacrifice 3 minutes of your time, specially when you have tested the game in less than this amount of time.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, you have help me to realize how beautiful is the world where we are living, with beautiful people like you. Really, thanks a lot. Just tell me when you finish your first serious project, one where you had put all your hopes to make a small business around it, and I will gently give you my feedback based on 3 minutes of play.

"First installment was far superior"

date: October 19, 2009

Wait, so I kill zombies by running into them? At least in the first game I actually hit baseballs at them.
Also, more often than not, a zombie would attack me and I would knock him off but the character was infinitely in the "attacked" position and I couldn't move. This lead to nearly instant death.

Author's Response:

I beg your pardon. Please, read the author comments, I'm really sorry that I confused the player with two game system when the really fun, accessible and easy is to crush the zombies doing combos.

i cant beat the last level is impossible and ZB1 is better than this

October 20, 2009

Author's Response:

Really, once you learn to do combos you will find it too easy. Give it a chance, and forget about drawing the fucking lines once you get several combos. I only use the lines when I activate the RAGE POWER and I want to clear my way to the chopter.
