This is my first Flash game. The gameplay is extremely simplistic; it is an Asteroids clone after all. I originally created this game for a competition. I thought I would update it a bit and submit it here. The controls are extremely simple.

Left/Right Arrows - Turn ship
Up Arrow - Thrust
Num Pad 0 - Pause

The game uses auto-fire so there is no fire button. There are currently three different power-ups: bonus life, gun power-up, and shield. The gun power-up increases your rate of fire and the shield gives you a shield that allows you to take one hit from an asteroid without dying.

The scoring is time-based. The longer you've been alive, the more points you get from destroying an asteroid.

Purple asteroids require two hits to destroy. Once they are destroyed, they are broken into two blue asteroids. Blue asteroids break into two green asteroids. Both blue asteroids and green asteroids take only one hit to destroy. Power-ups are dropped only by blue asteroids.

Update: Added the ability to restart upon game over.
Update 2: Added a high score tracking system.

Needs some changes

For a first flash game, it's pretty decent. But it has absolutely no music, which I find saddening, because every game needs some music. Also, the controls do not work well, such as when I try to go left or right, it simply turns. Also, when I accelerate andI try to stop, it just keeps on sliding.

If you change all of these, then it will become a better game!

Avictus responds:

I agree with there needing to be music. As for the controls, they're supposed to be like that, it's a Newtonian flight system. I will work on getting some background music in the game. I originally had procedurally generated sound effects for the thrusting and asteroid destructions, but I commented it out before submitting it to Newgrounds.

Pretty good.

It's definitely better than I can do, but there isn't a way to restart the game after I lost
