Hello.
First of you wonder, what is this? This is a movie i made about Pearl Harbour.
When the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor 1941, 7th December.

A regular day for the US Navy, it seemed.
But a horrifying day for the world.
In a matter of hours, several thousand marines were killed.
They declared war.
But did they really deserve it? Its up to you.

First of all, i would like to tell you that everything is made by me,
except for the sounds.
I worked 4 months on this.

I here by dedicate this to the marines that died that day.
"May you all be serving your country, once more, maties."

A present. Open it.

(Note: Its a stick figure movie, so it'll have to do)

"Good movie"

In your author's comment you write:

Hm... WW II started in 1938, I don't think people cared about Pearl Harbor too much at this time.

That being said, on to the review:
This is a very good movie, I really don't know why some people give such low scores in their reviews.

The opening scene is great and this scene alone made the long wait for the flash to load worthwhile. I liked how you added those little "sparkles" from the sun to the camera. Only problem is that those "sparkles" where static. They would have moved to the side a bit as the camera zoomed in on the ships.

Anyway, the graphics are very good. They look very realistic. You even added reflections of the sun to the water and let those reflections move, to indicate the sea is moving as well. Very nice. It's those tiny little details that make a flash stand out from the rest.

But I don't understand why you used stick figures. All the other graphics are top notch, but you couldn't be bothered to draw people? Hm...
Okay, sticks aren't neccessarily bad, but you could've added some uniforms andor hats to them (just like Coop suggested). This would make the flash even better.

The fight scene was a little bit too short and single sided. You could've shown some US airplanes taking off, or even a dogfight between a japanese and an US airplane.

Also, why did you call the flash "Harbor of Hearts" in the end credits? -.-

"Oh god, this is great :D"

You definitely worked really hard on this, and I'm confused why this didn't make it to the top 50. It's amazing.

The graphics were what got me the most in this. Fantastic backgrounds to start with, that sky looks so real, and the sun reflecting onto the water was very well made too. I liked the 3D effect you did on the ships and planes, it made them look more menacing and real. If there was anything I'd complain about graphic-wise, it'd be that the outlines of some things, especially the sea at the beginning, looked a little strange. Also, I think sometimes, the textures should be a little less plain, for example on the ship floor. The animation was smooth and excellent throughout, and I can't complain about it.

The story is historical, and while I hate historical stuff, this left me pressing the replay button quite a few times. You portrayed the imagery of the war scene excellently, although as Darklight said, a longer fight would be better. Maybe picturing people on land hiding in shelters, or something. Maybe at the end you can even show how the bombers left the place; destroyed and with bodies everywhere, instead of just saying 'it was over'. Oh, and fix that Harbour of Hearts problem :P.

The audio was great, and added to the already emotional display. The sound effects were excellent too. Nothing to complain about audio-wise, it was perfect.

It's a superb flash, showing what 4 months of hard work and everlasting talent can do. Keep up the great work, if only this made it to the top 50 so that the people of NG can see what an amazing flash this is.

"Is this the same flash u guys saw????"

date: September 23, 2009

Seriously. I saw the first review from kamaron and i thought 'man this must be a really bad movie...' But I saw it and i honestly have to completely disagree with Kamaron.

The only possible reason why he could've given u a zero was if he knew absolutely nothing about the war. either that, or he didn't care.

Anyway, down to business...

[Animation/Graphics]

Just to make this clear, i have absolutely nothing against stick figures and using them in a movie like this draws no disapproval or disagreement from me. its your movie so its yours to do what u like with it.

All in all, Good graphics and smooth animation. Stick figures moved without a lot of jumps and skips and the graphics for ships and planes were quite good too. Not bad on that level.

Backgrounds were great throughout. On thing though. there's a part were the bombers just seem to appear out of nowhere, rush at the screen and then disappear. maybe you could improve that...

[Story/Content]

Its historical and i admire that. Not many people want to put up stuff which is historical because they're worried that they might get a low score due to unoriginality.

The concept was good, showed the whole horror of the day quite well, although the fight could've been a bit longer. Also, i agree with Coop83 about the uniforms and ranks. It would certainly have added some depth to the whole thing.

The battle was also a little too one-sided, the Naval forces managed to take down quite a number of japanese planes and there were also a few american planes which started to fight back against the japanese sqaudrons (a dogfight would have been great...)

Also the credits did work agaisnt you cos u called it the harbour of hearts there but the harbour of honour in the title :P

[Audio]

Very good pieces of music. Like the way that they changed mood when the battle got underway. The transition could've been smoother but i'm not gonna complain. Great stuff.

[Overall]

Not a bad job. Who cares if u used stick figures??? i like it all the same. just improve the things i mentioned adn u'll get it better in no time. Ignore Kamaron's useless review too...

God lol. With the bad reviews this was getting I was thinking the submission was bad or something. Lmao, I'm not even sure if we are watching the same thing here.

~ Animation/Graphics ~

Guess what? I have no complaints here at all. Just because you used sticks doesn't mean it's bad. You did very good and the drawings, backgrounds, and the stickmen them self really looked good. Almost professional on some of the backgrounds and the airplanes. Looks like photoshop really helped you out there.

~ Story/Content ~

I think the only problem that I had was that I wish you would have shown just a bit more of the fight itself. What you did show as great and all, but a bit more would have made this submission better.

It does go rather slowly also, but it does have that sad theme to it so I can understand why. Wouldn't mind the pace picking up just a bit though.

~ Audio ~

Very good use of music to give this a sad feeling. The sound effects were done very good too. No complaints here.

~ Overall ~

Good graphics, who the hell cares if you used sticks or not, good animation, good action, good audio, etc.. I think you could have shown more of the battle itself, but that's the only thing I can think to improve on.

"Not bad, for a stick movie"

by: Coop83

I think that you could have done so much better with this piece if it weren't a stick movie. There were a couple of contentious issues - perhaps when you called the movie "The Harbour of Hearts" in the credits, that let you down slightly.

I think that you made it look a little too one-sided, as the Americans did manage to take down a few Japanese aircraft, which would make it look slightly less anti-American, so if you're looking to make more of a splash (sorry, poor choice of words) with the piece, if you did something like give some proper form to the soldiers, even if you use the stick men as a base, adding things like uniforms and hats to them - gold stripes for the ranks, that sort of things would certainly add character :)
