This is a game I've been working on a little off and on. Please tell me what you think. It's just a little demo of what I'm planning to make.

Thank you for good helping reviews.

"A list of improvements needed....."

date: August 18, 2009

-Sprites need to be cleaned up (jumpin Link has black spots)
-Sprites need to look more balanced (some look 16-bit, others 32-bit, game looks awkward)
-The game overall lags constantly
-Word boxes are annoying and should close themselves, should be activated with a button or dissapear when the collision ends
-The floor/tiles look great but the BG, which looks homemade, needs to be beefed up to match them (again with the conflicting quality)
-Controls need to be laid out easier and a tutorial would be nice
- Mouse control for weapons like bomb/bow/other aiming weapons would be nice too (i know they're not here yet but it would rock!)

These are just some of the problems i had with it. Its a good idea, and the basic mechanics shouldn't be too hard to polish up. I think other than the SSBM sounding song repeating non-stop you're biggest problem is with the graphics and finding a style for the WHOLE game (not just a couple sprites). Considering how the game right now isnt too bad means you could be on to something~!

"it's going pretty well"

date: August 18, 2009

but you should add these on:

- the camera is kinda slow and the game is glitchy

- maybe adding more attacks and adding jump attacks

- more weapons like a bow or hookshot?

- what the guy under me said about the textboxes

- changing the keys? like the Z key for the swords combo and moves, and if you do add more weapons X key for the other weapons and C to change the X weapons.

I hope you can understand what i was trying to say and i hope this helps.

(maybe)

Yes I understand. Thank you for the words. Yes. I was thinking of adding a shop where you can buy bombs, bows and such.

Thank you again.

"A good start"

It is a good start indeed, but i found some things worthy of mentioning.

a-) You should implement jump and attack, im sure it will give you more freedom for desingning future stages.

b-) The texboxes should not reappear if you close them without moving from where you received it. ok that was confusing, what i mean is: you stand below thestatue and a text box appears "The statue heals your wounds" i don't move, i just press "close" and the textbox appears again. It shouldn't appear unless i go away and come back to the statue.

c-) The "camera" moves too slow compared to link's speed. you should make the camera move faster, so you can actually see whats coming, think of good old Megaman or Mario, the guy is always in the middle of the screen.

Thats all i can think of, i agree with the WASD too, i gave it a 3/5 if you fix it im guessing it will be 5/5 worthy.

"Good enough"

date: August 18, 2009

This is good enough for me to play now, then you could add support for the WASD keys as opposed to the arrows as others mentioned. The art looks fine for me, and i never had any errors, so the programming checked out too. All in all this game is fine as it is, but if you want to boos the rating a bit you could make a couple of improvements.

Author's Response:

Yes. Seeing as people mentioned using WASD-keys I'll probably add that. Can't believe I didn't consider it myself.

I think my programming is a bit heavy, that's why some people are getting some errors. Only better computers won't notice the errors.

I'm gonna get to work on it.

Thanks for the review.
