I don't even know why I bother trying to be hip and all when I still don't get on that damn bytejacker show and I still don't get on TIGsource's frontpage. I don't know why, but I still try.
You sort of have to play my other game "You Only Live Once" before you play this. What happens in that game decides what happens in this.
Should have been edited into the other game
Although I appreciate that this game adds a more didactic theme to the philosophically vague adventure in You Only Live Once, you probably should have included this in that game, rather than submitting it in a stand-alone format. People aren't going to get this unless they played You Only Live Once, and even then, it's literally over in as long as it takes your average trigger happy, ADD suffering Newgrounds user to decide to point and click. Do you care about your ratings? More power to you if you don't, but I don't think Newgrounds is really place to use flash animation to make artistic statements.
Also, despite its simplicity and the understated nature of the death, the game's tone comes off as more than a little heavy-handed. I think you might be taking yourself a little too seriously, or otherwise expecting more from your audience than you're going to get. Video games are on the verge of becoming an art form, but I'm not sure they're quite there yet. I think you should keep experimenting, but consider channeling some more playful energy next time around. Flash games are generally simple and silly -- you can still use them for whatever you want, but I don't think something like this is going to have the impact you're hoping for, especially here, and especially when displayed separately from the piece it builds on.
Don't worry about the lack of recognition -- you're doing things I don't see or hear of anyone else doing. Yeah, I know people think you bit the idea from some other guy, but I'm guessing you're "facepalming" because it wasn't intentional. Correct me if I'm wrong -- but I'm not, am I? Shit happens. Someone beat you to the punchline this time. Back to the drawing board. I don't know where you're at in terms of formal education or a career, but if you keep it up you'll get where you want to be eventually. You've got real creativity and talent to back it up. You "still try," I think, because this seems to be what you're passionate about, and you have some novel, perhaps even literally great ideas. Keep it up. I'll be watching.
personally I agree that the "your actions have consequences" is a bit heavy-handed but this is a tribute to Jesse Venbrux' Execution which had a similar ending message. If you play his game first I'm sure you'll see just how silly this is :)
Well there was barely anything in this game to be enjoyed because there was barely anything in this game at all. You shoot either the pink dragon or the main character from you only live once. And that's it. There's no strategy, gameplay or even challenge. So this game could be more viewed as spam rather than a sequel.
So that's it. This game doesn't have much to be enjoyed but the whole concept sort of just failed from the start.
Meh. The guy who did karioshi the suicide salesman made a game just like this. You added nothing new. The only reason that I dont zero star and 0 this submission is that it does follow up on you only live once, but all you did was a character swap so really. I would have liked to see something new added to a game like this. Maybe have the guy beg for mercy or maybe change out weapons, but all you did was a character swap. Better luck next time.
yeah you're sort of missing the point
that lizard's so fat
it's so fat! hell fat! and pink! Where did you get the idea of this character?
The local storage thing is cool...
But it gets realy annoying that you can't play these again 3:
Oh well. I guess thats life.
