UPDATE: What to collect and what to avoid.

Catch energy before it runs out. Be quick, watch out for black holes and bad energy.

This code was made after a first attempt called Catch the light http://www.newgrounds.com /portal/view/493373

Hope you enjoy it.
I would love reviews, ideas, bug reports an other. Thank you.

(Note) This game will be slugish on older machines.

Genre: Collect game

AWESOME! the only thing i disliked was the black holes, when my dad wanted to talk to me I got interupted and i noticed i got hit by black holes!

It's a start

It's not a bad game, but it needs more variation. Partical effects would do this a world of good as would more different elements with different animations. I'll be honest; I don't know a damn thing about animating with flash or programming games so I can't tell you how to build your own game, only what I'd like to see.

Thanks. Well, you surly have seen this games error, when to many elements appear it begins to slug. I guess it have something to do with the size. I have chosen 854x480 which is pretty big for a flash game which is usually 550x400.

The other problem is how the code is read. The code in a normal PC/MAC/LINUX game is read directly from the OS, or if you want, C++ programming that builds up the OS. Though flash has to go through your flash player and then the web browse and then arriving to C++ where the action script code has to be transformed into C++.

Thanks for the comment!

ok game

not great. could be a bit more detailed you know what i mean? add more things to collect, power ups, stuff like that. wasnt bad either

stian7 responds:

Thanks, I will bring it with me in the future.

Not bad.

Interesting game. I'll give you credit for the polish of it - good graphics, okay sound. It wasn't badly made at all.

My problem with it was that it was simply too vanilla. I'd add things such as extra bonuses, that maybe make you invincible, fill up your energy bar, or destroy enemies. Games like this one are BEGGING for levels, too. Consider making it an upgrade game, where, if you clear one level, you get to add things to your ship (like items that can repel enemies, shields, that sort of thing).

Couple of other points too - are the lives needed along with the energy bar? I'd get rid of the lives, personally, because you lose energy when you hit an enemy anyway. It was hard for me to gain more energy, too - the collectables didn't spawn fast enough. And it did lag slightly for me, although I'm not certain if that isn't my computer.

If you really want to make a great game, I think you've got the basics down pat - just add some more stuff that keeps us coming back for more. It's not fun when you're doing the same thing over and over. Good try though - just make it more in-depth!

A basic dodge and collect game...

Nothing impressive here... you dodge, you collect and you try to build up the energy meter to keep from dying. The coding is simple and the game is easy; if you play for very long you end up getting bored.

I would suggest putting some more time into the game... add some coding to where you get drawn in when the black hole gets near and perhaps add new and interesting objects as the game progresses. As it is right now, your game is doomed to mediocrity.

stian7 responds:

This is game is like the yellow rubber duck. Everyone has it, and you got to do something special to make it new and interesting.
This is the a typical: "Bound to happen" games. Surely there is an programmer out there that might take the credit for the first version, but if he did not do it, someone else would.
Thanks for the suggestion.
