Elvex has rather disturbing dreams. Dr. Rash takes him to Dr. Calvin for a positronic brain examination.

Runtime: 7:40 min, so sit back and relax.

This is my 21st Newgrounds submission. It took 2 months to create. The genre is what I like to call a Serious Long Film Neo-noir.

Please enjoy!

"Decent Adaption of an Excellent Story"

date: November 18, 2009

Asimov's story has not received many adaptations, and as such this is a welcome flash. However, I personally thought the addition of humor to the story didn't work very well, both because I didn't find it particularly funny, and because it's a serious story. I also found some of the designs, particularly that of the robot itself to be a bit to cartoonish for the serious subject matter. Finally, the voices needed work, both acting wise, and in the case of Dr. Calvin, quality wise (though the subtitles solved most of the latter problem).

Despite its problems, I'd love to see more adaptations, and I'm sure you can improve. Nice job. (3/5, 7/10)

"Brilliant reworking of a brilliant story!"

SauSau obviously isn't a fan of Isaac Asimov, otherwise they would've identified this as being separate from I,Robot! The only link it has is the fact that it has the Three Laws of Robotics (which Asimov used through many of his works of fiction).

I recently read the story that this was based upon, and although some artistic license was used, it was a relatively faithful reproduction. Personally I thought the voice acting was okay, though next time it might be better to increase the volume of the voices and keep them at roughly the same volume, rather than having different voices speaking at different volumes.
The art style was great, and definitely suited the feel of the movie. The little bits of comedy that you supplemented the story with were slightly out of place, but didn't detract from the movie too much.

Overall a really good flash movie and one that only suffers because of the ignorance of the majority with regards to one of the best Sci-Fi authors of all time!

It's a unique movie out there. It doesn't fit any genre neither classification. But it's also full of flaws.

First, this is based on the lovely mediocre movie I, Robot, and this is too bad you didn't create the story by yourself. It's not a major deviance from the original plot. It's a huge con. Even the main dream isn't taken from your mind. You seemingly flash-animated the movie, and it looks like a fan work.

Another bug is the animation of the main plot and the second dream. It's stiff, far from appealing and natural. I am not too concerned about it for a good plot can live up without a great animation. I am less lenient about the voices. Excuse my language, but they are horrible. They are barely noticeable, and when they are, it's a sour for the ears.

But I like the first two dreams. They made sense to whoever's got a brain. It's not too hard to understand. And the style of animation there was nifty. You should keep this kind, it suits you very well. Overall, a likeable movie. I wouldn't watch it again though. I am giving a medium score to encourage you working, you have great potential.

Author's Response:

This has NOTHING to do with "I, Robot". It's based on a short story by Isaac Asimov called "Robot Dreams". The same author wrote "I, Robot", which was made into a Holywood movie.

The voices were a little hard to understand.
I still liked it very much because in contrary to most things I come across here, it really makes me think a little.
Good work! (maiden rocks!!)
