Hi! This is my first submission to Newgrounds through the Flash Portal :)

I'm sorry it's not an animation ;_; A lot of people online have asked me about the way I color my art, so I just wanted to be helpful :) It's geared toward Beginners with some more "advanced" techniques.

This covers a Cel-Shade Airbrush style that I use (Mostly for my art, and I would use it to color Comic Books too), Actions, Layers, Masks, Flats, Backgrounds and Shading.

Edit: Ohmigosh ;_; Thanks for all the wonderful reviews and votes and the two awards, guys ;_; I'm glad so many of you found this helpful!! :) :)

EDIT 2 (Thank you zuipit!): Here's a link to the lineart to follow along with, Just look for the download button if you're unfamiliar with DeviantArt, then hit "Save As" on your browser :) (For some reason whenever I try to make this into a link it's messing up :/ Just erase any spaces in between)

nice

i wish it werent fan art though :( but any way nice way of doing things, except for a few things, you and i use photoshop very differently. well plus ii rarely scan. good picture tho!

Wavechan responds:

I consider myself a fanartist, I guess, over all else :) Though I'm trying to shift into my original art now. It was kind of disappointing way back then when I would draw original characters and no one would even look at them, so I kinna just gave up on that. Now, I'm gearing toward the opposite...

Yeah, I think a lot of colorists all do things different. :) I once had to share a coloring project with this one guy, and he had NO idea how my PSD/TIF files were set up or how I could even color like that XD I don't scan much either, I've been inking Digitally for the most part, but there's still a lot of people who do, so I added that in. :)

Brilliant.

Love it! (And a nice choice of a pic, too! ^^) Everything about this flows, giving the watcher complete control over where they arte going. The instructions are simple and concise, and the lttle chibi brings it all home. Awesome work!!!

Wavechan responds:

Thanks very much :D!!

...Wow.

wunamon said that it could be called Photoshop coloring for dummies, but I'm gonna have to say that you can't be a dummy and go through all this. My brain hurts... My brain hurts and I've done this stuff all the last year in classes, (Well, not this, a lot less complex than this, otherwise my brain wouldn't hurt right now...), but anyway, I applaud you. Much more work than I could ever put into something like this. I'd get done with the first example picture and say "Nope. Not for me" and scrap it.

Wavechan responds:

eep ;_; I'm sorry your brain hurts! I guess that's why I tried to put the cute characters in there.. it's a lot to take in. @_@ Thank you very much for looking at it!

They say...

Art is part creativity, part obsession. Whether it's obsessing over the details, obsessing over your implements, obsessing over your skills, obsessing over your subject ..

Nice tut!

Wavechan responds:

Very... very true :) I defintely get obsessed over details XD

Good work!

Your tutorial was very cool and never boring because of the little manga person. :D
