"In an effort to update a game with very few flaws"
date: November 5, 2009
I do believe you've made the game a little bit worse here, D-SuN.
This is pretty much Mario Combat with a graphical upgrade and a new combat system. Unfortunately the flaws from Mario Combat return ten fold in the so-called Deluxe.
What's wrong? Well the combat system for one. Mario fights like he does from the Smash bros games, sometimes dude that isn't a good thing. Mario Tornado? Most of the time I'm killed in the middle of performing it because the damn enemies are still hitting me. The original never had the enemies killing me in mid-air. Not to mention, the original's flaw of being swarmed by enemies? That's tripled. It's like I have to avoid fighting or else I can't get to Bowser. Not to mention any chances to attack while being surrounded became null and void.
Second? Too bright and cheery. The Original takes place in a damn castle and the fight with Bowser was epic. Now, it's standard mushroom kingdom.
Finally, I'll address the third issue, aside from the combat, these final thoughts carried over from the original. There is healing. The original, you went on a different room and went on fully healed. Here, you go to the next round with the same damage. All well and good, but why can't there be some way we can heal in the middle of it. And the final issue: TOO DAMN SHORT!!! Seriously man... I believe the game could have used a little bit more to play with, yunno?
This isn't Mario Combat, not even close...
