I do like side scrollers, but...

Controls, controls, controls. Because you can't aim in multiple directions, there's no reason to fire with the mouse. Along with that, you need to be able to aim in multiple directions. Because you can only aim straight ahead, it's impossible to kill anything without putting yourself in harm's way. It's oddly balanced by how often you pick up health and armor, but still not good.

In a platformer, up should never be jump. For those small platforms, the combination of jump and down would normally make you jump straight down. It may seem like nitpicking, but it comes up as a problem in the first level. When you jump up into the corridor with that pink thing, it chomps you if your head is up in the corridor. You can't jump down so that it'll walk by, so you have to jump up. You can kill it easily, but not without it taking out a chunk of your health.

The sprites are pretty good, except the player character. It's a minor complaint, but is it too much to ask to make the character's gun change to the gun you're actually using, or having him punch when using the brass knuckles rather than having him stick out his gun and having that represent a punch?

On the subject of weapons, sometimes when you pick up a weapon, it switches you to that weapon and, sometimes it doesn't. There doesn't seem to be a reason for it to off and on. When it does, it can be really inconvenient, especially if you pick up the brass knuckles without realizing it, start shooting at a target, then have it take a chunk out of your health while what looks like a gunshot doesn't do anything.

The buttons for the sound and that button that says on don't seem to work. If they did work, it makes sense that they'd be clicked with the mouse, but because that fires, I ended up wasting some shots trying to get them to work.

Outside the well done port of the music and the nostalgia of it being Doom, this is pretty sub par.

Well, you should try harder then :P
It's possible to kill the most enemies without loosing health. Timing is everything in this game! (try to hit 'n run...)

The autoswitch feature only performes while you are NOT shooting. It does have no effect if you run over a weapon while you are blasting out your shells.

You should also check the controls page before playing. The button to switch music on/off is "m".
There are alternate controls A,W,D and mouse-click to shoot. I prefer that for playing.

Anyway, thanks for the review.

Pretty good idea.but

One thing that I didnt like about this game is that when you switch the weapons it doesnt tell you which one you're using. Another thing is that when you shot and walk a the same time you start to flyy awaay like a birrdaai. lol but other than that good game.

knarrenheinz responds:

The HUD at the top of the screen tells you what weapon you are currently using.
The "shot 'n walk fly away"-thing is like in the original DOOM :)

Thanks for the review.

Front page?!

Terrible animation, choppy gameplay, and easy enemies. But I endured it until I got launched outside the third level for no reason. This game is horrible.

It could be that the framerate is too low on your machine.
If the framerate drops below 15 fps the game plays choppy.

Try to close any other browserwindows and/or memory eating applications.
If this doesn't help buy a new machine, haha :P

Thanks for the score!

Sweet game mate

Would have given you a ten if you'd included mouse aiming...
