Raider: Episode 1 is the first in a series of five platformers, consisting of a single level each. The levels are long, however.

This game is designed to be reminiscent of 'old-school' games which those of us old enough to remember playing them as children might find nostalgic.
It is designed to be CHALLENGING. Only the best players will be able to achieve the fabled S ranking for their performance. Can you?!/

Controls are specified in the game. They can also be customised from the How to Play screen.

PLEASE try Beginner mode if you're not great at platformers or if you find the other difficulties to hard and frustrating. It removes many of the most irritating aspects of the higher difficulties. Please do not complain that the game is too hard if you haven't even tried Easy mode.

NOTE: It seems that playing this in Internet Explorer results in some strange input-related problems, where the keys seem to 'stick' or something. You shouldn't really be using IE anyway; it's a notoriously bad browser.

Dear Me. You died.

Very good game you have here. I have to admit, I've only played it on easy, but I hope to work my way up after I get the hang of it all. :D I'd love to see the chance to earn me some of those fancy Newgrounds Achievements for this game in the future!

It was reminiscent of the NES games, but the higher graphics and music quality put it up around early SNES, in my opinion. Definately the difficulty of a good NES game, tho, while not too terribly difficult, and it held that sarcastic humor I've grown to expect as staples of those early games, i.e. the sign telling me that the ship is haunted. :P I don't see that 'S' as completely unattainable, and the game is good enough to keep me playing long enough to try to earn it.

Good work!

Just awesome, boss hp a little high...

but other than that, I've been sent back in time 15 years or so, when games of this difficulty were the norm, and the super nintendo was the shit. CHEERS MATE, YOU'VE DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE: MADE ME FEEL LIKE A KID AGAIN.

looking forward to no.2 ^^

This may help teach the little spoiled kids of today what a REAL game looks like... Again, cheers 10/10, 25/5 (5 days voting it at 5)

Respect!

I agree with some points people are making, but I understand what you wanted to achieve and I must say you did it very well. That kind of game, like megaman, were always hard and this game is just as hard, I was a bit annoyed by your attitude toward the negative comments but at the same time, you're totally right on most points, nowadays games are all made to be easy and offer no challenge to the lazy gamers of today (like me) who hate dying in a game or restart the challenges over and over. That's why I can't finish your game but I played enough to be able to compliment you on it, everything's great about it. Only one thing "bothered" me is not being able to get off the ladder when you're down to the ground, but that's so minor that it doesn't take anything away from the game, might be a design choice, but a bad one in my opinion. Great job! 10/10 5/5
