At the pinnacle of the genre
I've always been a fan of tower defense games. They are funa and challenging. In the past few months i have been playing a variety of tower defense games i have not beaten. They were all simple in mechanics and strategy, offered little in variety and game length, and in the end just didn't entertain.
Although i really like the ability to create your own path for enemies to go through (xeno tactic, warzone TD), the variety of user-abilities, and the depth of the strategy of this game well make up for the predetermined path.
And i really appreciate the difficulty. Easy TD games are not fun. Not for long. You really have to give it all you've got to beat this game.
The length of the game, experience system and an indeterminable number of other features add up to make this simply one of, if not the best TD games ever made. Bravo for making such a great game and thank you for sharing it with us.

It took me several hours over a course of a few days (thx GOD for saving ;) but I FINALLY FREAKIN BEAT IT! the last level was INSANELY hard but if you do it just right you should be able to combine ALL your Grade 7 Gems and bombard the Gem of Eternity just in time to win the game before the assload of enemies rapes you! I also like how the game 'continues' after this with the beyond corruption mode. I wouldnt give this much replay value but once you get past the 2nd Arcane Gaurdian level you pretty much have to keep going or give up! The game DOES quickly get more difficult but if you take the time to beat levels on different modes to get more expirience and really learn which gems/combos are good and where they should go then you can do well even when the going gets rough. Some levels took me more then 15 trys to beat but the majority I beat on the first try. I love defense games and I sencerely hope that you are continuing this saga and that I will see a NEW gemcraft before next year! This goes FAR beyond my expectations of any defense game and should be the new standard for tower defense in general! 10/10 and SEVERAL 5/5s =D
the difficulty is fine as is
When playing you need to be smart about where you put towers / traps and how you use the talents.
Scatter towers far enough so that their radius (range) don't intersect while at the same time covering as much road ground as it can. This will make it so there aren't any wasted shots on enemies that die while one tower hits and the other misses the already dead target.
Check to see what hue the enemies are, from what I have noticed, if you attack a mob that has the same color of the tower that's attacking it, the mob will take less damage. (not entirely certain about this one)
Don't use spare gems (gems with a hue you are not using) as gem bombs, unless it is entirely necessary (like taking out nodes, Tower Block, Trap Block, Arcane Blocks). You can save them and transmute three of them at a time by gembombing them with a color hue you need, they need to be on the same row (left to right [x|x|x]) It can help you build up higher grades with colors you want / need for the level.
The worst difficulty curve I have ever seen, and i have played some pretty aggravating games. tone it down a little.
