Here is the Newgrounds Flash version of "A Bid for Freedom".

It is a story that I wrote and converted into a small fable with images provided by the talented Nacho Rodriguez (who created Mr. Coo and won the #1 slot in Cold Hard Flash's Best Animated) and lush watercolours by his girlfriend Cecilia Deshayes.
It is an illustrated storybook, narrated for your pleasure by the debonair Andy Dennis, with guest turns by Sasuya and Josh "Tomamoto" Tomar you HAVE to hear!
The Storybook route was pursued so it could enter ReNaeNae's excellent Storybook Collab;
http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1003968 Talents in writing, art, voice, sound, code etc. should give it a look!

To turn the pages, hover your mouse pointer over the bottom corner of the page, then left-click and drag the page across with your mouse until it fully flips over.
Narration starts on each page as you view it, but you're free to read at your own pace (you can right-click and select "Zoom In", then drag around to see all the fine details).

This story is NOT an attempt at hair-pin-bend trigger-happy balls-to-the-wall FBF hentai-maniac game-parodying shenanigannary. NO REALLY, IT'S NOT!
The power here is in the words and the pictures.
There is COMEDY, ACTION, DRAMA and ROMANCE, all skewed at odd angles.
There's fantasy, exotic locations, body odour, and even a fast car if you stick with it!
Have patience, we've many things to offer you. Stick with us. We're a good group.

Please vote and review showing respect to the combined talent and hard work involved in this Flash. A lot of passion went into this just for you guys, so be fair.
Critique, constructive criticism, suggestions, these are things we graciously accept.
If you vote or review abusively, you let Newgrounds down. Don't.
If this is "not your sort of thing" or you're somehow disappointed by the lack of animation, this is not the fault of anyone involved; no-one's forcing you to watch!

With all this in mind, we hope you enjoy (with your drink or snack of choice) our hard work, vote and review responsibly... and may your day be brighter.

==================

This section is for the creative people out there:

This has been a hot coal in my hands for quite some time, burning with collective passion, yet I've been reluctant to throw it into the fire.
Enough people are happy with the results as they stand for me to go forth and submit it.
Trust that this will blossom over time as we come back to better adorn this work.

My preliminary thanks are on this page:
http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1049617/3

I additionally thank DrNeroCF for saving us in the coding department and Deathcon for further help; Joey Young (http://joeymofo.newgroun ds.com) for providing sound effects at short notice and the Very Odd House (http://www.theveryoddhou se.com/) for a small snippet of lush score; and to Josh Tomar, introduced late into the project yet he delivered an outstanding performance within minutes of me asking him.
Further thanks go to the Newgrounds Team for their support of this work, and to all Newgrounds users who do the same (including Mr GUS, who is highly underrated: be sure to see his latest http://www.newgrounds.com /portal/view/483436 and vote for it in this year's Treasure Hunt).
Any other great participants that come to light will be remembered here equally.

Cheers!

Good, interresting and new

Hi

I found the idea of turning the pages of a book really interresting. Did you make the images on the computer un scan them ? I didnt read it all is written really too small, it's hard to read. Maybe i would have put more songs and sfx.

In some pages, caracters, smokes, animals, .... could move to make an even more interractiv story.

But very good overall, keep on your good work

Aha, some critique! Good points made, and all well taken.

The text issue has been fixed; enjoy!

Songs and SFX are probably the very next thing on our list after that. I've got a great composer interested and might get a variety of songs to warm it up a bit. The sounds are pretty easy to find since Joey helped source the majority of them.

Moving would be cool; like pop-up where they slide about on tabs or something! That would have destroyed any chances of finishing this thing at this stage though. We'll probably do it again though. Interactive? Probably not. "Will you drink the wine? Y/N?" "N - I'd rather drink blood." "Y - Why?"

Cheers for your balanced critique, I'll definitely keep up delivering to the best of my ability and I'm glad despite the lacking elements that you still enjoyed it!

Great story

I quite enjoyed listening to the story. You did a great job keeping my attention. Loved turning every page.

The art style was fantastic as well. It reminds me of old books I used to read when I was a kid. Nacho Rodriguez and Cecilia Deshayes did a lovely job.

I didn't expect the ending. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Haha. Definitely a favorite.

AdamCook responds:

Thank you; attention's elusive on the Internet, but I try my best.

I'm glad the feel of it invoked something for you; all the elements really meshed together well, and if we can take you back in time then that's a nice bonus for you!

I hope you continue to follow our works. I'll try to keep surprising you and everyone else for a long time to come.

Excellent!

Wow, I must say, YOU have a future ahead.

Beautifully drawn, VERY well detailed, great, but comical, storyline, amazing sound quality, and just an overall grand display!

Plus the read-along voices and sounds were positively amazing! I can't believe you made something like this and put it on Newgrounds, this needs to be bound and sold!

The main problem I found was that the text was a little to small to read at some points, but other than that, it was Awesome.

But truly, great job!

AdamCook responds:

You're far too kind, thank you! I am considering doing some big things with this for sure. Keep in mind I've got a checklist of things I still want to add to this just as a Flash.

"Great, BUT comical"?
You know, "great" and "comical" were college room-mates once! Duck Soup, man! The Apartment! Come on!

The text issue has been fixed; enjoy!

Ta for all your praise!

wow

I am pretty much awestruck. AMAZING NARRATION, AMAZING ARTWORK, FREAKING AMAZING USE OF ACTIONSCRIPT, and a nice story to go along with all that. XD

If you had animated that, I would've died right here from the awesomeness. So don't worry about me "punishing" you for "lack of animation." It's good enough already.

There's a secret there; Andy Dennis, Nacho + Ceci, and DrNeroCF. They all delivered above and beyond in a short time-scale, and I'm so proud of them all. The story... aww shucks, thank you!

Maybe one day when we get megabucks we'll rewrite it, remake it and ANIMATE it, and by then hopefully you'll have a cure against death by awesome.

Cheers!

WOW!

Thia is great! NG really needs a lot more submissions like this and artists/writers like you. How you got past the 10MB I don't know.. But you certainly have earned every bit of loading time and byte presented. Please tell me you have more to come. Positively brilliant.

AdamCook responds:

I have more to come. I hope the talks with prospective artists go much more smoothly now I have this under my belt.

To get past the 10MBs, you have to make a request to Wade, but he's tricky to convince. Luckily ReNaeNae slipped on her silk garters and charmed him into giving an upgrade. A lot of people do it, but you have to be sure you can deliver. This is what I was happy to release, but I'll be sure to improve it now that it's getting a good reception.

Thanks for all your praise; I love to entertain, and I love people who love to be entertained. You're a smart cookie to appreciate what's on offer, and I commend you for supporting us in our strive for better submissions.

Cheers!
