Here is the Newgrounds Flash version of "A Bid for Freedom".

It is a story that I wrote and converted into a small fable with images provided by the talented Nacho Rodriguez (who created Mr. Coo and won the #1 slot in Cold Hard Flash's Best Animated) and lush watercolours by his girlfriend Cecilia Deshayes.
It is an illustrated storybook, narrated for your pleasure by the debonair Andy Dennis, with guest turns by Sasuya and Josh "Tomamoto" Tomar you HAVE to hear!
The Storybook route was pursued so it could enter ReNaeNae's excellent Storybook Collab;
http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1003968 Talents in writing, art, voice, sound, code etc. should give it a look!

To turn the pages, hover your mouse pointer over the bottom corner of the page, then left-click and drag the page across with your mouse until it fully flips over.
Narration starts on each page as you view it, but you're free to read at your own pace (you can right-click and select "Zoom In", then drag around to see all the fine details).

This story is NOT an attempt at hair-pin-bend trigger-happy balls-to-the-wall FBF hentai-maniac game-parodying shenanigannary. NO REALLY, IT'S NOT!
The power here is in the words and the pictures.
There is COMEDY, ACTION, DRAMA and ROMANCE, all skewed at odd angles.
There's fantasy, exotic locations, body odour, and even a fast car if you stick with it!
Have patience, we've many things to offer you. Stick with us. We're a good group.

Please vote and review showing respect to the combined talent and hard work involved in this Flash. A lot of passion went into this just for you guys, so be fair.
Critique, constructive criticism, suggestions, these are things we graciously accept.
If you vote or review abusively, you let Newgrounds down. Don't.
If this is "not your sort of thing" or you're somehow disappointed by the lack of animation, this is not the fault of anyone involved; no-one's forcing you to watch!

With all this in mind, we hope you enjoy (with your drink or snack of choice) our hard work, vote and review responsibly... and may your day be brighter.

==================

This section is for the creative people out there:

This has been a hot coal in my hands for quite some time, burning with collective passion, yet I've been reluctant to throw it into the fire.
Enough people are happy with the results as they stand for me to go forth and submit it.
Trust that this will blossom over time as we come back to better adorn this work.

My preliminary thanks are on this page:
http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1049617/3

I additionally thank DrNeroCF for saving us in the coding department and Deathcon for further help; Joey Young (http://joeymofo.newgrounds.com) for providing sound effects at short notice and the Very Odd House (http://www.theveryoddhou se.com/) for a small snippet of lush score; and to Josh Tomar, introduced late into the project yet he delivered an outstanding performance within minutes of me asking him.
Further thanks go to the Newgrounds Team for their support of this work, and to all Newgrounds users who do the same (including Mr GUS, who is highly underrated: be sure to see his latest http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/483436 and vote for it in this year's Treasure Hunt).
Any other great participants that come to light will be remembered here equally.

Cheers!

Great work

The illustrations were wonderful, the voicework was brilliant, and the story, impeccable. Congratulations on making a success out of your storybook collab. Only thing to note is that the text is a little hard to read. This would have been a much bigger problem if the voices weren't as clear as they were.

I've seen your works in the Storybook Collab; you're very poetic and literate, so this kind of reception is truly wonderful. Thank you for checking this out and I'm thrilled you enjoyed it!

The text issue has been fixed; enjoy!

I very much look forward to seeing you deliver something for the Collab yourself; I hope to see you on here soon doing similiar business!

Cheers, and best of luck to you in your own ventures!

Nice

Nice game but you should warn people about that fridge that needs you to jump to avoid it..
All the players below me had this problem and they thought they died randomly..YOU NEED TO JUMP GUYS!

AdamCook responds:

Having checked with you about it, it's now clear that you accidentally posted this review in this Flash as well as the game you're talking about. I'm looking to see what I can get done about this; if you liked this Flash I'd love to hear your opinion!

Great story

And very well narrated! Quite impressive my good sir! I loved the colors and the style, they flowed perfectly with the tale being told.

And might I say, smashing accent.

Well I verily thank you my fine acquaintance! I am thoroughly pleased it worked on all levels to entertain you! Andy's accent is jolly spiffing, I agree.
We'll see if we can deliver a sumptuous smorgasbord of Flash delights for your consumption.

/my terrible Terry-Thomas impersonation.

Awesomeness

I love it! Again i agree the narration was a bit, odd, it just didnt suit what i thought the main character would be like. But hey, you can't please everyone. Every other part of the story rules!! Hahha i knew you'd keep the "chomp" in, what an awesome sample i have now of eating an apple.

AdamCook responds:

Haha, cheers man! Check your e-mails, I've copied you on a few things!

Yeah, that chomp was excellent! I'll have to see if I can get some more sounds in just to round it all out a bit more.

I think there's a split between what I make the guy say and what he actually looks like. If you were casting just based on the visuals then probably a rockabilly Elvis impersonator would be in order. As you say, each to their own; at least you enjoyed the story, that's the important thing!

Innovative.

Although I have seen things like this before, I fell as if this has finally done the "Interactive Movie" genre some justice. Interesting story, not exactly a style of writing I am completely familiar with but none the less, enjoyable. I felt that the artwork was really where this piece shined. I felt it's what differentiates this piece to the others I have seen of the same sort. As other reviews have said, something could be done about the font size and sometimes I found the voice acting to be.... annoying. It felt as if your narrations were over acting and trying too hard to impress with accents and such. But these are only tiny flaws in a very well done creation.

Familiarity breeds a lot of things, so I've heard; I think you should always aim to broaden your horizons with different styles, especially in such a diverse personal field as writing.

The text issue has been fixed; enjoy!
I heartily agree about what you say regarding the artwork, but you certainly shouldn't discount the work that's been done in the other fields.

As for the voice-acting, you think they were trying too hard? They impressed ME, that's for sure! It's cool that you're refined enough in your taste to have that opinion, but I think a lot of people would cop out of viewing all of this if the narration wasn't interesting and intriguing. Besides, for all the comical flair of silly accents and such, I think Andy did capture some nice nuances in his delivery that truly served the work, so I'd say he succeeded.

Cheers for your review, I hope to deliver many more completely unfamiliar works (and maybe some overly familiar stuff) in the future.
