Here is the much-publicised Flash version of "A Bid for Freedom", as seen in two recent News Posts by Tom Fulp on the Newgrounds Front Page.

It is a story that I wrote and converted into a small fable with images provided by the talented Nacho Rodriguez (who produced Mr. Coo and won the #1 slot in Cold Hard Flash's Best Animated) and lush watercolours by his girlfriend Cecilia Deshayes.
It is an illustrated storybook, narrated for your pleasure by the debonair Andy Dennis, with guest turns by Sasuya and Josh "Tomamoto" Tomar you HAVE to hear!
The Storybook route was pursued as part of ReNaeNae's excellent Storybook Collab;
http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1003968 Talents in writing, art, voice, sound, code etc. should give it a look!

To turn the pages, hover your mouse pointer over the bottom corner of the page, then left-click and drag the page across with your mouse until it fully flips over.
Narration starts on each page as you view it, but you're free to read at your own pace (you can right-click and select "Zoom In", then drag around to see all the fine details).

This story is NOT an attempt at hair-pin-bend trigger-happy balls-to-the-wall FBF hentai-maniac game-parodying shenanigannary. NO REALLY, IT'S NOT!
The power here is in the words and the pictures.
There is COMEDY, ACTION, DRAMA and ROMANCE, all skewed at odd angles.
There's fantasy, exotic locations, body odour, and even a fast car if you stick with it!
Have patience, we've many things to offer you. Stick with us. We're a good group.

Please vote and review showing respect to the combined talent and hard work involved in this Flash. A lot of passion went into this just for you guys, so be fair.
Critique, constructive criticism, suggestions, these are things we graciously accept.
If you vote or review abusively, you let Newgrounds down. Don't.
If this is "not your sort of thing" or you're somehow disappointed by the lack of animation, this is not the fault of anyone involved, so please don't punish us for it.

With all this in mind, enjoy (with your drink or snack of choice) the presentation put before you, vote and review responsibly... and may your day be brighter.

==================

This section is for the creative people out there:

This has been a hot coal in my hands for quite some time, burning with collective passion, yet I've been reluctant to throw it so readily into the fire.
Enough people are happy with the results as they stand for me to go forth and submit it.
Trust that this will blossom over time as we come back to better adorn this work.

My preliminary thanks are on this page:
http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1049617/3

I also additionally thank DrNeroCF for saving us in the coding department and Deathcon for additional help; Joey Young (http://joeymofo.newgroun ds.com) for providing sound effects at short notice and the Very Odd House (http://www.theveryoddhou se.com/) for a small snippet of lush score; and to Josh Tomar, who I introduced late into the project but who delivered an outstanding performance within mere minutes of me asking him. You go, To'!
Further thanks go to the Newgrounds Team for their continuing support of this work, and to all Newgrounds users who do the same (including Mr GUS, who is highly underrated: be sure to see his latest http://www.newgrounds.com /portal/view/483436).
Any other great participants that come to light will be remembered here equally.

"a perfect book"

a brilliant piece
the artwork behind the words and the cover spread across each page give the book a truely brilliant feel, the avoicing talents only further the book's brilliance, nothing more about it can be said but just PERFECT

"She shone like the centre of an Oreo" - genius XD. I'm no English scholar, but I loved the language you used and the tone of the narration - though in a couple of places it did seem to go just a little bit *too* gravelly. Nice style to the book artwork!

"Then the ground rudely appeared..."

Author's Response:

Hahaha, thanks for your kind words! I'm no scholar myself; I write what works for me, for my own enjoyment, and I'm always pleased when other viewers like yourself share my sense of humour!

Andy did a great job on the narration, finding clever ways to phrase my words that give them life and character beyond the page.
Part of the gruff delivery can be attributed to his working situation at the time - he was swapping between several computers in varying states of disrepair, while dealing with personal and work-related issues... he thankfully managed to find pockets of time across a few evenings to do the readings, and my script would exhaust many a healthy throat on a good day.
There was also a character element I was encouraging in parts to make the narrator become more dishevelled as the evening wears on and he becomes swallowed up by his groggy surroundings.
Considering the amount of potential problems that could have derailed a successful reading, I have nothing but praise for Andy for not only persevering for me but also for excelling in the quality of his delivery, staying true to the heart of the story and fitting in cosily with the talents of everyone else involved.

Cheers for reviewing! Be sure to check out our team's other projects for original entertainment, and we'll work hard to create more in the near future!

"superb!"

date: November 3, 2009

that was truly the narration was on point and i loved how you used water colors to illustrate it. the idea of a story book format was very unique and original and the script was a master class. please give us more, all in all you deserve a 10! (although i was a bit vexed that he didn't get the girl at the end)

Author's Response:

Your great review and your support are both much appreciated!

Props go to Cecilia for bringing watercolours to the table on this one; she managed to take Nacho's distinctive designs and really bring an extra dimension out of them. The whole dreamworld effect it creates is exactly in tune with my surreal mindset for this story, so I'm thrilled with their results.

Sorry about the vexing there; I'll see if I can get one of my future characters hooked up with their own special someone to make up for that! Mind you, I think our protagonist for this tale comes away richer from the whole experience, and maybe a little wiser for his next potential adventure.

Cheers for encouraging original talent, and we hope to bring you more great projects soon!

"Very Unique!"

The story is cool, but the way you did the flash with the watercolors, page turning, and a very talented voice over made it even better. I liked it.

this was good simply because i've never seen anyone emulate pages in a flash

ABUSIVE REVIEW! PLEASE FLAG THIS REVIEW "X" FOR WHISTLE POINTS!
(Unhelpful one-liner with no feedback on the actual work itself and an arbitrary score that has no logical relation to the review text!)

Right, so basically you couldn't find anything to say about the hard work we put into it?
Any of the art, writing, voices... anything that actually took effort and creativity?
It's a bit disrespectful to just pick such a low number like that and not even have anything constructive to say about it, as it leaves me with no idea as to how I can improve. There's no indication that you even read the story; just that you saw the first few pages.
Still, glad you liked the page turning... but that was a template!
