My fourth flash game, created for a university project. All code, animation, assets, and graphics were created by myself! Enjoy the game.

no just

no never again

Well, at least it's playable. Oh, wait...

This game is rough. No gettin' around it. On the animation side, the little things tend to stick out, like the clouds: they don't keep rolling forever, they just roll over the sky for a long time, then reset. The animation is a little cheap as well, but I've seen worse.

The thing that bothers me the most about this are the gameplay mechanics. There isn't much of a problem with the jumping until it gets away from you and you find yourself getting shot in the face when you're hopping up platforms unintentionally. But that's okay, because there's no penalty for death except for starting back at the beginning of the level with your current score! Well, I guess it hurts your overall time-bonus. Which, by the way, I wasn't aware of until I beat the first level and saw it. Why is there no clock or timer to indicate the time needed for such a bonus?

The controls were actually pretty tight aside from the jumping. That is, until, I got to level 3 and I couldn't move forward. I thought the character might have been stuck, so I moved backward a step until I couldn't go anymore. Then I realized I couldn't move at all, save for the jumping.

One random thing that bothered me about the level design is level 2. You have moving platforms that require you to move with them, which can throw quite a few people off. Then you have a platform moving in front of a building's roof. Why not just have the player be able to run across the top of the roof? It's a little thing, sure, but it just doesn't make much sense to me.

You said you made this for a University project. What were the criteria for this project, anyway?

jake0606 responds:

Hi thanks for your response! I understand all of your critisms and am aware of them in the game! I understand the engine can be tweaked a great deal and needs a lot of smoothing out.

the game was marked on finished product, conceptual development, supporting marterials/research, and software usage.

At the end of the day i got a first for it so im happy!

Haha! Very good.

My good gods, this game was quite fun!
Definitely, better than your other game, that baby racing one.
8/10
4/5
Whee

there is a glitch

this a glitch in the game at the first level

Dude, really?

Dude, You're at uni?!
For the love of god, at least sort out the:
a) Collision Detection
b) EDGE OF THE GAME WORLD!
c) Mobs, like wtf
d) He's a >BIRD<, why can't he >FLY<

jake0606 responds:

Yes im at uni! And yes i know the game is not perfect. But to be fair university course is not a games design course, just one module! Considering it was one of my first games (ive only made 3 before) and my first game coding in AS3 i feel its a fairly decent attempt, and deserving of more that 1 out of 10!
