Experimental Flash. Please give constructive criticism!
I've been working a lot on my flash and as3, so if any of you have tips on how to improve, please don't hesitate!
It's only about a minute long, so don't expect anything monumental.
So I primarily focused on:
-Shape and Motion tweening
-Play and replay buttons/coding
-Frame by frame
Again, if you have ideas of how I can improve on these, please tell!
I liked the kinetic set.
I liked that the pace was frantic except for the main character (which is part of the point).
I like the message it sends.
I like the soundtrack and think the animation fits the music well.
I LOVE the simplicity of the whole thing... I really believe with a simple, profound message like this that less is more!
My only complaint is when you hit the "replay" button, you have to go back through all the opening credits which takes about 15 seconds it feels like. I would prefer to just watch the cartoon again at that point.
LOL yeah. The original movie starts about 100 frames (or more) in and I did gotoandplay (3).
I'm questioning that myself.
I probably won't do that from now on unless the title sequence is shorter.
Thanks for the help!
the animation was smooth. the only that jumped were SUPPOSED to jump. the graphics are simple but clean and enjoyable. the soundtrack sounded repetitive until you get that flute-ish sound in there.
did youi intend on this being an artistic piece? casue it was a little boring that he just sits there. if there was a message there, by all means keep it going, but if you were jsut lazy than....work on it.
overall, 7 out of 10. one point off for me not getting the point, if there is a point to be undeerstood.
Nah, it was just messing around with the program.
I intended to instill some meaning, but don't get the idea that it was meant to be too artistic.
Once I get all of the basics down i'm sure i'll be able to start putting some meaning in them!
Thanks for the review!
The music is cool
The animation looks a little half assed in my opinion, tho...
Don't take this as an insult or anything, I'm just telling you my opinion.
Take a look at the clouds for example... those consist of a few random strokes...
If you want things to look artistic, they should have a certain shape.
The animation itself doesn't have any real story, which I don't like. No scene changes, no kinds of complex fbf animation (I'm mentioning this point because there are animations which have no story as well but just a great use of fbf which fits well to the music).
It's always the same picture which makes it a little boring and some random characters passing by.
Also the characters and the protagonist had no details or anything that made them interesting.
I don't know how long it took you to make this but I think you should spend some more time on the next one...
Yeah one of the main things i'm trying to improve on is content. I'm still learning some new techniques that should add some variety, so I hope you'll check out the future stuff!
As you wish
I give it 8/10, for being "experimental" :P , theres nothing really happening, the graphics are not good, djbra's remix sounded like too hyped up sadja's soul, but it gives me the reason why the original creator didnt add any fancy sounds to it :)
Has a rare quality to it.
The music was very beautiful and along with your crude drawings it helped create a sense of atmosphere and time passing by before my eyes.
The point here is that we don't pay attention to whats going on around us and are in a closed box such as sitting in front of your computer screen for example.
Life passes by before your eyes and if you don't pay attention.
You'll miss it.
This piece of work is very intelligent and forces you to think of your own conclusions yet the presentation is simple.
There is more than meets the eye here and not many casual viewers are gonna understand this at all.
They just want instant instant gratification such as something that only exists to look cool.
For the future i would recommend using a preloader you created yourself and present it like just another frame in your movie.
Artists and non artists alike do this with preloaders for there work because it is interesting every time without fail.
No need to do any kind of complex loader just program a simple loader that gets the job done because after all every little thing you do is part of your artistic statement.
The more things you create yourself for your movie the more integrity it carries.
I'm not saying create your own music just create what your capable of making for your creations.
I like this a lot and i only ever seen this sense of atmosphere disguised as a bad movie within jetninjin's best work.
You have a rare gift.
Don't waste it by just giving up because the picky 14 year olds have no appreciation for art.
I look forward to seeing more from you in the future.
Thanks for the great feedback, I look forward to experimenting more, especially with the preloader idea!
