"A Rush"
date: January 24, 2009
Like you said, you just wanted to get this one out of the way to finish the series, so I can understand you rushing with it a little bit; however, there are some parts you should have clarified (I had to go back and play the second one to figure out a little more of this one).
First of all, the duck. I'm sure that most people thought your message of Mr. Hatman turning into a duck at the end of the second game was a joke, not a reality. In fact, it's still hard to tell if you were using that in this game. The only reason I assume that the character is fighting to turn back is because of the dialog from the beginning. It isn't clear what has happened, and since the second Hatman was several months ago, no one probably remembers what happened at the end of your second installment. That's probably the reason you're getting some confused reviews. If you had simply added a quick explanation of why Mr. Hatman turned into a duck, or if he really was a duck at all, I'm sure some people would be a little happier.
Okay, away from that confusion. I'm not going to touch the part where the duck runs away with its feelings hurt because I can't really explain it. I'm just going to give some regular criticism.
Artwork: 9/10
Well, the graphics are pretty much the same as the last two. They didn't need many improvements, so there isn't much of a problem. The characters flying in the background and other moving objects were nice in the battle.
Dialog: 7/10
The dialog wasn't very detailed, and the short messages didn't seem to do much for the overall plot. In fact, they may have made it more confusing at times.
Gameplay: 5/10
Okay, this was the moment that the game stumbled. You have used the same combat system in each of the games without much improvement. Sure, it's fun to fight bosses and use cool moves, but when you cannot train Mr. Hatman or use any other character in battle, your audience tends to expect something a little different. Like I said before, some funny dialog or scene when using moves would have been good. Really, anything that could entertain the audience. There just wasn't anything to make the battle interesting. Besides battling, there wasn't anything else to do. I know that is how the other two games played out (bosses and dialogs), but it would have been nice to see something new for the Mr. Hatman finale.
So, that's my review. It's a little harsh, I know, but it just comes from a guy who wants to see people improve and make works that will astound anyone. You can count on me watching/playing your other projects, but I also expect to see some new creativity in them as well.

Author's Response:
I understand you want me to improve.
I just wanted to finish this and move onto a flash movie or something instead of a game (because games are tedious and don't end up very well if you don't have a great knowledge of actionscript).
In all honesty, yes, I could have done better. The thing is, I lost interest in the series near the end of the second one but I still wanted to finish the last one. It was actually going to be a a lot longer, but I just couldn't be bothered.
Your review is not harsh, it's just kind of review I like to see.
