Um.

I'm primarily an artist, but I always wanted to make games. I figured the best way to learn to make a game was to dive right into Flash and puzzle my way through it.

So. Yeah. Here's my first attempt at a game that actually worked out.

Critique is nice. I like critique.

I liked it

it has some mayor flaws, like no sound, but there are many things i liked about it, i.e. the art, the character and yes, the story, believe it or not, i liked it.

It's a start

This is a very good start to making games. It is very rough around the edges though. I find the best way to show this is Pro's and Con's.

Pro's:
Controls are no problem
The menu is easy to operate
Very unique art style

Con's:
No music or sound what-so-ever
Enemies kill you no matter what and move too fast
Problems with jumping
I could not understand the point of the game
When you die you get sent back very far

Overall the Con's outweigh the Pro's but this is a very good start to Flash and you could definitely go somewhere with practice.

meh

Basis is fine
Transitions need work cause you kinda just jump from screen to screen.
You cant kill anything but you could make that work depending on how you continue the game.
Jump animation needs a bit of work but thats easy.
Music plz? [with a mute button] preferably some sort of peaceful tranquil music seems to fit
Otherwise this may turn out to be a good series or something. its been done before though so if you can find some of the other ones. ive played a few like this but i cant remember what they are called anymore so do your own research.

Nice!

Nice! But why'd ya call it mu?

Nice Start

It looks like you've got a grasp on the basics of the programming.
Since your an artist primarily, you're probably looking to make it 'look' good first. The animations were great, but you may want to put 'introductionary' frames before walk cycles (for instance).
When walking, make the first set of frames when you start to walk, and then the walk cycle thereafter will loop. It's quirky on the eyes when characters 'jump' into animations.
Add sound! it gives great depth to any animation (especially footstep).
I like the art very much though, the game could be very good with more plot and rudimentary feature. Look around a lot (google etc) and use the forums, there's much information around here. Contact me with a question if you'd like.
