This short animation is about a young man suffering from depression after witnessing his mother get killed by his own father.
When his father finds out that he was at the scene, he then abuses him , threatening to take his life too if he said a word to anyone.
As he grows older, the young man finally decides to end his misery to be in peace with the one person who ever loved him, his mom.
And which better day to do it, than on his mother's birthday.
As for the mask, it is also a representation of his silence over the years.

Perfect!
It was sad until the camera moved over to the dad in the end!
That is the perfect gift! And I love all the symbolism in this, the mask, the smiley face, the day of the murder-suicide. It was very well done!

Very short but the message is clear.
"Happy Birthday Mom" features a kid who has gone his entire life with an abusive father and a dead mother. The father killed his mother by running her over. In the end, the boy decides to kill his father and hang himself on his mother's birthday. It's really that simple. The only problem with "HBM" is that it's way too short to really grip any emotion out of you, and it kind of leaves you with this empty feeling like the story is incomplete, but you understand the intentions of the boy and where his heart and mind lie. Not that moving, but very expressive all the same.

This was really good
For an animation less than five minutes long, it has more deep plot than a George Lucas screenplay. But then again, i love dark and woeful stuff. I might be biased. ^=^

ummm....sad
I liked the animation style...and i think you took the vocals from a freddy krueger movie when the dad talks but I could be wrong....all in all its a good story just really dark and semi noir. I thought it was all very fluid and on point, when the sound effects from the belt hit the red marks appeared right on time. good work and hope to see maybe a happier one next time ! :)
