A tribute game will never be as good as the original, but meatboy gives it a pretty good shot. The metanet guys will be happy.
There are alot of professional games out there which really suck. You don´t see it the first time because they are designer pretty well. But the more games you play, the more you understand what bad games are.
Well, and this is one of these bad games. If you don´t know what I am talking about, I am talking about games like Mortal Kombat, or Mace: The dark Age.
I think I finished all levels with all secrets except for the last one (scrolling upwards in hell, with single step platforms in circle shaped background somethings). I played that level around 100 times now and gave finally up. The main problem is the juming high is random. It´s not always high enough. Maybe because the game is laggy on my pc. But maybe that´s also the reason why I came so far. Sometimes he jumpes high enough to touch the highest one step platform for 1/10 second and sometimes he is not jumping high enough to touch the platform...
Anyway some people say the game is hard, like some people say, mortal kombat is hard to play. But man, I played a lot of games, and I know there are many ways to improve the controls. Tomb raider could been much harder if it had as shitty controls as this game. But they were clever and balanced the controls. For example Lara Croft can jump even shortly after leaving the ground which is very well designed. Sure they had the choice to do it or not to do that. And they did it, and tombraider became a huge success. In Mario World are no plattforms where you drop off as crazy as in this game. And Mario World became a huge success.
Well, the makers of THIS game thought, hmmm... as well as it´s possible it´s ok. But the game isn´t really that great for being that hard.
Mega Man is hard aswell, but not so hard that it´s no fun. Anyways, this game is just frustrating, because of it´s awful controls and not so great level design (also some levels in hell are much more easy as the levels before).
If you go to game spot you can see that games like Mace the Dark Age or Mortal Kombat don´t receive that great scores aswell, even if there athmosphere is top notch. Because they are simply badly playable. It´s like playing chess on a rollercoaster... That´s why I gave it such a low score. Too much on the limit... seriously...
Beated every stage except for "We reach."
That stage by far, is the most irritating stage of them all. It should be on the expert chapters. There's a few stages on the expert chapters that are really easy compared to some in the story chapters.
Don't mind the low score, I'm just a little pissed off due to the amount of times I died in the game. Besides, one of the goals in your game WAS to piss people off right (The constant death was a sure fire way to annoy people, if you didn't expect people to get mad about it, then... wow)? Damn, gotta hate Speedy & short Trial and error games, the worses genre of the bunch.

okay story, but for a game based on vertical towers, the wall-jumps SUCK.
Please do not mistake 'Hardness' for bad design. I think you keep calling it hard to avoid the fact that you made the controls crap. I know you allowed us to skip levels but I wouldn't use that. I did finish (barely) and was disappointed with the copy-paste style of the levels. You added in the crumbling walls around level 5 or so, but they were no problem, so far if you hadn't been going that fast anyway you were toast. the one thing that amused me was the level designer. and even that wasn't worth the 3 stars I'm giving you.
