Good game but there's room for a lot of improvment

First of all I would like to say that I like this game. It has a cool style, the basic idea of the game works really well, the graphics are nice (for a flash game) and it's fun to play. That being said, i think there are many improvements to be made.

For the first few levels the game is really fun. You're finding out how things work, you're figuring out different strategies and you're slowing getting more types of soldiers and artilleries. Also, each level has a different set up so you aren't stuck with the same boring map. The man on man combat is fun, and at times challenging, which makes the game enjoyable. I would also like to point out that I think the morale bar is a good idea. You don't necessarily need to take the enemy ground to win. You can hold your ground and slaughter the enemy until they surrender. The morale bar makes the game interesting because you can't just build as many units as you can and send them all across the map. You need more tact than that.

Now for my criticism; I think the game basically fails as soon as tanks are introduced. Don't get me wrong, the tanks are a good idea, but they cripple the gameplay totally. You have to rely on the artilleries to destroy them, which sucks. Even if you upgrade your artillery you need luck to destroy the tanks because when you aim at the tank, or at the path it's going in, the shells usually land somewhere totally different. If you miss a tank you have to wait for the artillery to replenish, which takes time, and even with a fresh batch of shells you still might not hit it.

Instead of fighting enemy soldiers, you try in vain to destroy a lumbering hunk of metal and bolts as it slowly but surely forces it's way across the map. You end up giving up trying to call in men, and instead build your own tank and hope the enemy doesn't hit it with their shells. This is what the game becomes. A race to build tanks and hope you destroy theirs, and they don't destroy yours.

One could argue that you can just set up a custom match and turn tanks off. Although that may be fun for a bit, you get bored with it because you're not gaining anything. You don't get exp. points, so you can't upgrade anything, and you don't advance on to another level. One of the fundamentals of gaming is that you advance further and/or gain something if you keep playing. In the end you're forced to play a fun game that goes nowhere (custom) or a game that relies on basically one strategy to win (campaign).

I once played the last level in which the enemy built 8 tanks in the time it took me to build 2 tanks and a few groups of men. I know the enemy is supposed to have an edge to make the game challenging and fun, but goddamn, cut us some slack.

I think the game would be better if the tanks weren't as powerful and we easier to destroy. Still have the player rewarded with a powerful tank for waiting for the tank icon to replenish, but don't make them rule the game.

I think the artilleries should be more accurate. It sucks only being able to aim at the middle part of the ground and the shells never land where you want. Also, do we really need two types of air shells? You don't need the mortar when you have the artillery shells, especially when the artillery shells work better and replenish faster. I think being able to place your own mines and barbwire would be a cool idea.

Also, I think you could have some more types of soldiers. You could have rocket launcher men that make tanks easier to destroy, or medics who could heal squads of men. You could even have parachute men that you can deploy behind the enemy so you can surround them and attack them from both sides. Also, you could have mortar soldiers instead of making it an artillery. Then they would fire automaticly once you've called them. This would mean more or less explosive power for you and the enemy, and also the ability to destroy them.

Finally, the game is too short. It's not necessarily easy to finish, but once you do, there's nothing else to do. There also needs to be more diversity in the terrains of the levels.

really good till this

i was screwin around putting a tank only fight and by the time i had two tanks the germans had like six wtf!

It's good, except...

I felt that the entire game was ruined by the artillery. The reason one would garrison their armies in a trench is because it provides a defensible position. This is completely undermined by the artillery, which gave the enemy the ability to methodically wipe out my entire army. Whenever I hear the bombs going off, my options are to stay put so only most of my men die, so I have about 3 men gaurding my trench, even though it's "full", or I can charge forward, where I will be shot to death, and all my men will die. The only part of the game I could enjoy was the custom battles, where I was able to turn the artillery off. If you changed the range to only, say, half the battlefield, or got rid of it entirely, I think that it would make the game much better.

seems great...

but a little tough to get past anything but the first level. My morale dipped quick and my mortar guide must be blind. Fun for about then minutes, but it got fairly frustrating...

Lacks strategy... can be hard at times

I think every battle after the second goes like this.

1) Send in troops
2) Get bombarded by German Artillery whilst yours is on a long cooldown.
3) Enemy masses troops and easily wipes out yours
4) Morale drops
5) Defeat

I think this game lacks balance, has a lack of unit counters and just lacks strategy in general, the graphics are good though.
