This is an old game of mine, updated to use some cool bitmap effects and I've added some "outriders" which circle your ship, that can be released by pressing the shield button (down arrow). Gain more outriders by killing ufos.

Use the arrow keys to move, down for shield/fire outriders
Use Shift to rapid fire or left mouse to single fire

Shoot everything and dont get hit.

Way to go...

This is a killer way to juice up asteroids. The controls are spot-on, and the graphics are excellent. The audio is perfect for this game. Good luck on your next submission...........vp

ugh

good graphics good pragramming and good concept but the controls were so bad that i played 10 seconds and gave this game a zero the thrust is way to strong theres no reverse the turning is slower than my grandma and it just doesnt work at all it wud of been bearable if the down button was reverse and u used something for ur shields or whatever but u didnt the controls make this game so unbearable that im rolling up a joint to calm myself from the autrosity. fix the controlls and this game will be an easy 3.5-4 score game. till then its just gunna piss more ppl off than it pleases

Hate hate hate it.

How can you have asteroids without the ability to move backwards? Even WASD would have been a better control scheme, and I don't see why the mouse couldn't control the direction with an up/down thrust option. Barring that, since it seems you're going for the old school feel, why not have a separate button for the shield/allies? Throwing an 'E' into the mix would have been simple enough.
The programming seems excellent, the sounds and graphics are great. I'm sure that many people will love this game, but I really hated the controls.

Aforshaw responds:

In the original Asteroids, the player did not have the ability to move backwards using a single key. The only way it could be done was to thrust forwards and then spin 180 degrees and let your momentum carry you. Sorry you didnt like those controls but I wanted to remain faithful to the original in that respect :) I take on board your comments about having a seperate shield button so I will do another version at some stage with more control options.
