Welcome to my 'first' game! Whew, there were a lot of issues with this game as I was making it. Fortunately, I was able to iron most of them out.

This game WILL LAG if you have any other windows open, due to it spawning many enemies.

Good for a first game, but nothing too great or exciting. Just decided to show you that I write reviews as you do, but still don't see anything wrong with a short review of praise every now and then.

~ Animation/Graphics ~

Not bad for a simple evasion game. Just the average stickman, but for the most part all of the animation was smooth. It really did lag for me and I'm on college wireless, which is usually some of the fastest internet that you find around and a virtually new laptop, which doesn't have too many problems with lagging with other games. Still giving you the benefit of the doubt that it could be my computer and not your game I will not take any points away from that. Also, what exactly were the enemies suppose to be? I couldn't tell from what you drew out.

Everything else seemed to be perfectly fine in terms of animation and graphics. The backgrounds and colors used were pretty nice.

~ Story/Content ~

You did make it a little different than the large population of these evasion games that you find on newgrounds, but for the most part still your average evasion game. It is good that you added weapons, even though your first two weapons are virtually useless. The third weapon was obviously the best weapon, but perhaps a little too good? I rather see 2 average weapons and a great weapon instead of two useless weapons and an amazing weapon.

I wouldn't mind seeing an enemy that followed the person around when you ran around. That would have made it a tad bit harder. I also wouldn't mind seeing a better level system where you could collect things on the map that gave you points and in between levels you could go to the shop to buy upgrades and everything for your weapons.

Upgrades could be - Bigger lasers, less recharge time, less energy used when weapon is shot, shields, extra lives, faster character, etc.. Maybe even something where you could by an extra soldier that would shoot and survive for a given amount of time depending on how many times you upgraded him.

That would make the game pretty fun and original in my opinion. Perhaps even allow the person to make a few color changes to their character or add things like hats, etc..

The last thing that I would like to see with breaks in between levels would be a different background/maps for each level. That would make things much easier on the eyes and would prevent the game from being boring. I can envision a level where it's raining and thundering, a snowy level, etc..

~ Audio ~

I like the sound effects that you used throughout the entire game. The only thing that you could have done, which isn't possible unless you added extra levels, would be to have a different song that represents each level and the sound effects that coordinate with different levels such as rain sounds with a level that is raining. The music that you did use fit rather well in my opinion though.

~ Overall ~

Your average evade game, but rather good for somebodies first game. Hopefully if you make another game in the future the ideas that I gave you will help you out. Keep up the good work.

"Good job!"

I love the concept but I can't give it a ten, the game was too big for the window making it difficult to view the weapons and playing field at the same time. Also Every time I got to level 14 it glitched and stopped working. Finally the walking and graphics need to be spruced up some more. All in all it is a good game but needs some adjustments before the final version.

"It's ok."

The concept is quite nice actually. I have a few suggestions though.

Firstly, make it that you can shoot lasers from all sides, it's god damn annoying having to work my way behind something just to kill it.

Secondly, make a better reward system. Try involve some scenario or big goal other than 'Getting to level 30'.

Lastly, fix up the visuals. It's just a stick running from some blockheads... if you work on a more exciting visual spectacle, the game will be more suspenseful and enjoyable.

Good try.

Author's Response:

Definitely some noteworthy advice.

The whole thing may have seemed a bit rushed, I guess. I tried high-score hostings but then you'd have to pay for those...

As for the graphics, I'll keep that in mind as I make future games. After all, I might need to spend more time on it... if I'm going to keep up with games like MMM...

Thanks for the review, its good to get reviews that go into things to improve, without bashing an author on an honest attempt.

"good potential"

-game was too large for my browser window. shrink it a bit
-recharge rates need to be increased with level, along with weapon power
-have enemies give you experience when you kill them
-introduce a "shield" that can absorb some damage and that takes time to recharge
-increase max. power with level
-add score boosters for the higher difficulties

Thanks, I'll keep these tips in mind as I make future games.
