"In honor of Clock Day, I'm voting five."

date: August 18, 2008

I have seen a lot of this recently: Fake collaborations. They are actually more like online petitions against the collaboration cause. The message is apparently that collaborations are over-rated & possibly just a way for a bunch of artists to get more attention than they normally would on their own.

The message usually doesn't come across that way. Because of the typical low quality of these things, it just comes across as spam, and the point is usually completely lost. This one is a bit different, and is at least pleasant to look at & somewhat clever. I'm not sure that I agree with the premise that most anime submissions are crap, because all the animators do is make pre-rendered pictures blink their eyes. I do think that this submission is more likely to get noticed than your typical scribbles, though.

So, you and your friends may think that the more popular flash artists are over rated. How are you helping things by making animations that are worse & likely to be ignored entirely? It is possible to overdo a parody so much that the point is lost, it's not funny, and it is an even bigger nuissance than that which you are parodying.
