"I couldn't care about your characters."
date: August 14, 2008
This movie just seemed really slow to me and in the end, I never really cared about the characters.
The Pico-day pre-loader edit was cool.
Why on earth did you blur up so many of the pics in the intro?
The Stefan bit with the robots was kinda lame.
Your blocks were hard to tell apart. Maybe making them different colours - blue, pink, green etc. would help? Or give them more identifying features - not just an item of clothing.
I kinda liked the simplified hair of the receptionist and the assassin was well drawn - specially in the intro and the shot of him eating the burger.
The 'miraculous survival' could have been a decent ending if we'd had some backstory about these characters. We know nothing about this 'little kid' and next to nothing about your other characters. You could have told us so much more - pick an element that sums up who they are as a person or sums up their relationship and show that.
You're asking us to suspend disbelief and just go along for the ride when we don't have a starting point, so to speak.
Your 'I wasn't expecting you' - was that a mistake? Because though it made me chuckle, it didn't make any sense.
Not terrible - the voices were clear, there were some decent elements in the visuals and some song choices were great.
All in all, I think you need to take a step back and try to show us a bit more about your characters. At the moment, I found it hard to care about it all.

Author's Response:
Well, If some people were to be patient and wait for the next few episodes, they might give the backstory on the characters. I blurred the pictures on the intro to give them a realistic effect. The robot scene might be lame to you, The "I wasn't expecting you" was part of the joke because the receptionist said "He's been waiting for you". "This movie just seemed really slow to me..." Time is percived different by different people. You're a pretty picky reviewer, but you need to be patient and wait for the next few episodes, I'm not going to start out the movie with a biography on all of the characters, (Some people are too impatient. They won't take the time to read and learn before they watch, so I'm just trying to make it appeal to most audiences). The next part will explain what the kid is doing to Mike before part 1. It also gives a glimpse into Ivan's past life. I'm expecting the viewer to learn more about the characters simply by watching how they interact, not being presented a whole book. It helps you become connected with them.
