This was my final project for Ryerson University's film program.
a better quality version is here:
Simply Brilliant, Love the attention to detail. Now I don't know a lot about animation in general but it certainly feels like a lot of care was given to make this short. Execution of the story is also splendid, though the agenda of the characters wasn't all very clear (I'll just have to watch it again, won't I?), the principle of "show don't tell" makes the story much more intriguing. The message is also interesting. One could argue that lying is bad, one could also argue that lying is necessary in some situations to avoid it escalating out of control. Once you know the truth you also have the power of choice to either reveal or conceal it. One could argue that it is right to reveal the truth because people deserve nothing less. One could also argue that concealing the lie/ given an alternate truth is the best option in the long run to avoid future consequences or change.
Naomi chose to conceal and keep feeding false hope to the people, being a beacon and inspiration to them. My main question is: what could have driven her to tell the truth? Her main emotional connection was "Robot", he had a direct purpose to be a failsafe if the facade failed, which makes sense because he can be directly programmed to perform tasks whether they are questionable or not, while humans can be unpredictible and make their own decisions and could compromise the purpose of the mission. Robot(s) can be repaired or even rebuilt, the notion might be insensitive given the emotional connection between Naoimi and Robot but true nonetheless.
Had it been a human, had she seen the blood of her own kind, would that drive her to tell the truth?
Instead of seeing a city rebuilt, would she see the blood of her own kind?
And that is why I give this short 5 stars, very few 10 minute animations can make me ramble for this long through provoking thoughts :P
Sure it might need a polish but I chose to see the content and not the wrapping in general for the most part :)
AWESOME please check out my video its an animation like this but in HD
Great, the best thing spectre757 has ever made, and an amazing plot and idea. The only problem is the low quality, the slow plot, and the almost "depressing" end. Being this guys last ever video, I'd say he did a great finish. Thanks spectre757 for keeping us all entertained.
Do I detect a bit of NWO commentary going on in here?
The short was obviously very raw and in need of some polish, but for what it was it was great. I wasn't a fan of the ending, but the ideas were there. It was like a reverse Wall-E where the world want back to sleep in stead of facing the truth... :/
Nothing good can come from a lie, eventually they will find out, and the consequences would be worse than if Niome had just told the truth then and there.
I don't really know what you we're thinking, but It got us thinking, and that's a good thing.
Yeah, this needs some work, but I can still appreciate it as it is. ;) 3/5
That was GLORIOUS!!
I only wish the video was in higher quality :'(
