Hotrod Opened the Matrix 1: Revised Edition
Runtime: 15-20 minutes (I don't feel like counting)
Bobert learns of a link between 'Transformers: the movie' (1985 animated film) and 'The Matrix' trilogy and vows to stop the transformers from enslaving mankind. Ryan joins him and they confront Hotrod, the transformer assumed to be responsible. They'll have to wait, as Hotrod has crossed Jesus Christ (owner of JC Penney) and he doesn't take slander against his store lightly.

This was originally completed back in the fall of 2003 and released here on NG. Due to this, the story takes place in the year 2003. That means dated dialog and references.
This is a revised version that includes new transition scenes, smoother animation in parts, and a quicker story. Of course, much of it is still dated and the audio quality still suffers, but I've fixed everything I'm willing to.
Most of this was revised in 2005, but I lost interest in it. Decided to finish it during the spring of 08.

You can pause and play the movie via the right click menu. There's no playhead option or subtitles like in many of my other recent animations... it would've been more trouble than it's worth to add them, so you'll have to make due.

This is for old fans of HOTM. New fans are welcome, but know that this series still isn't finished and there aren't any plans to finish it. What you see is what you get.

Blah blah I'm done.

Its a bit long, butI won't fault you for that, because there is a pause button, which is not common, not your best, I like the other Siblings vids, easier to tell who's who, not too bad 8/10.

wow 15-20 minutes? This is like one of the longest movies on newgrounds. Some parts actually didn't make a lot of sense but I think I liked the graphics the most. They were colorful and fun to look at all the detail in the background. Keep up the good work guys!

as a fan of your work, I'm glad that you revised this. I remember watching the original and not liking the pacing very much. I also seem to remember you commenting on liking yourself in Siblings more than you did in HOTM because your responses and jokes are more natural and flow better in the former. all in all, I'd say that this was good back in the day, but you have definitely moved way past this in the ways of art form, and comedu form. keep up the good work though!

Author's Response:

I'll do what I can, my friend. And yeah, while this is definitely better than it was, it does still show its age a bit. It happens. And then I release it anyway because I don't like wasting work, y'know? So fuck it. Thanks for checking it out, though.

"Shows its Age"

I can understand why you truned to the Siblings series. This cartoon was a bit too long for its own good, and seeing all the drawing you had to do, it didn't seem worth it. This is the first HOTM I have ever seen, so I don't know how this one compared to your REAL first one, but this did not intrest me in seeing the rest.

Firstly, in this animation, the jokes were slow and badly paced. There were many funny background things going on, like the punk rock song and the bit about the re-runs, but since stuff is happening, its hard to focus on both. The story is a weird one, no real complaints, but I've never heard or seen anything like that before (except the use of Jesus as a character, don't you notice almost EVERY cartoon nowadays has him as a character?)

You certainly have done quite a job perfecting you art and animation with the Siblings series, sinde this animation was jaggy and strange. Also, things apparently happen for no reason. Why does Hotrod kill Jesus in the first place? Why does the ghost of dead-but-also-alive Jesus talk to Bobert's friend? Why does Jesus go on the air? WHY?

Oh well, guess plot doesn't really matter in a weird concept like this. HOWEVER, some of the dialogue is strange. Like when Jesus tales them all to that... one... clothing store, nothing really makes sense.

I laughed a little, but I'm wondering why you would remake this. If the origonal was over 15 minutes long like you say and had the origonal "acclaim" (and by acclaim I mean 'less that 3.00' score), why spend so much time re-drawing and animating all of it again?

Big fan of the Siblings, and I think it was a great choice to come out of this series to pursue one that has more comedic oppertunities and less drawing/animating.

Yes, very long. Got bored partway through. I know you're using audio from quite a while ago, but I would have updated it. The audio is lacking in comedic timing and actig quality. Sorry to be blunt, just constructive critisisms. Being a VERY new artist just about to submit the first of my own work, I can see how the original HOTM was impressive for a new artist. But after seeing this update, I'm glad you decided to move onto much bigger and better things.

Author's Response:

It wasn't redrawn as much as it was repaced. It's pretty slow, yes, but the original is remarkably slower. Pretty much 90% of this was done in the summer of 05, but I hadn't touched it since and it seemed a waste to not finish it when it's so close to being done. Not the best decision I ever made, but I'm not particularly caring about that. It is what it is, a piece of my personal history. I learned lessons during the making of this series that I still use to this day and there are people who still watch my stuff that like it, so it has fans... just a LOT fewer fans than Siblings.

Anyone who says my current work is too fast paced should check this out and see how SLOW it can be. I'll find a good medium someday, I'm sure, but still. Thanks for trying to watch it.
