{{-------------READ THIS BEFORE REVIEWING AND/OR IF YOU HAVEN'T READ "THE PEARL" BEFORE-------------}}
The audio seems to abruptly stop here and there in the movie. I've tried to fix this, but... this animation isn't the best I can do in the first place, so I apologize. But hey, we all start small. I'll be sure to improve my work for animations to come.
This animation was a mandantory project in my class I had to create, based off of "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck. There were many possible choices for the project, but I decided to create a short & silent animation from a scene in the book.
Please understand that I had only one week to produce this movie, so I had to use as many animating shortcuts I could come up with. The movie is a little over one minute long, because again for my short time frame to create this; the file size may be a little big for its length, but it's the most I was able to compress the file down to. The song you hear near the end of the movie was also made by me. You can download the full version by taking the link to the left.
This movie also goes by rather fast, does not cover the entire story, and it sorta will only make sense to those who have read the story. So, I will explain to you what is presented in the film:
The man in the movie is named Kino, a skilled pearl fisherman. He is husband to the woman, Juana, and father to the baby, Coyotito. Kino and Juana live in a poor village in La Paz, next to the ocean, and a rich town. One day, Coyotito recieves a scorpion sting (seen as a flashback in the film). Kino and Juana rush to the doctor at the rich town in hopes to cure thier child. But the doctor gets angry and refuses to help because of Kino's cheap payment (a bunch of small, grey pearls in an envelope; not very valuable). So Kino decides he must find the "Pearl of the World" to get what he wants.
Above the surface, on a boat, Juana puts seaweed on Coyotito's wound, in hopes it'll assist the healing process. Back underwater, Kino sees an oyster with a convincingly sized pearl. He emerges to the surface and gets on the boat. To his luck, he finds the Pearl of the World. Juana lifts the seaweed from Coyotito to find the wound has healed alone. Kino and Juana then realize they have the Pearl of the World to use for anything they want.
Hope you enjoy the film. I'll respond to your comments.
