The zombie horde are unrelenting, insatiable. The only chance to survive is to make it to Union City in 40 days, before the evacuations end.
Move from town to town collecting all you can carry and defend yourself through the night.
Good game! But...
The accuracy sucks ass, you have to empty an entire clip just to down one fuckin zombie, the zombie dogs where a pain in the arse also..
A few glitches
I've noticed that the survivors don't use the guns sometimes. the sawnoff shotgun especially as they fire it once and then thats it.
Also I got stuck one city away from the end. I'd explored everywhere and didn't find enough supplies to move on. I know this may not be a glitch but it is VERY ANNOYING! I'd spent a while playing this, died a few times, finally got so far and then dammit! can't move on!
Other than that it was good, not quite as good as the first but oh well.
Reloading does take too long for some weapons, so the game needs more balance. You should be able to upgrade your barracades and spend more time searching the more people you have. Also head shots are really important, you should reward steady aiming by being able to kill a zombie in one hit, especially if you are unlucky and only have crap weapons!
Hope you make a third one!
i liked it.
the 1st one was better, out of 50 zombies there was 25 runners, and they were the fat ones! wtf? anywho good game
Angry Flash-Game Nerd 3
Alright. I am going to preface this by saying that there are a lot of GOOD things about this game. A lot of them. So many, that, on the surface, it is hard to be angry at this game. But, that being said, there are some serious flaws that nigh unforgivably hurt the entertainment value of this game.
First of all, you made the game arbitrarily harder by reducing the hit points of the barricade by half, sometimes more than half. Second of all there is no gradual slope of introducing increasingly harder and harder enemies. Nope. They're all right there in the beginning, from armored troops to running fatties, to zombies with weapons that can slash/crush your few-and-far between allies. Thirdly, and finally, the random function for finding traps, supplies, weapons, and survivors is a little stingy. Now, I recognize that it is not completely random - thank the gods for that compound bow in the Hall.
Now, any one of the things outlined above would be fine, heck, even good. The advanced search function is awesome, and adds a great amount of depth to a game. However, there are too many zombies, and often, you do not have enough traps/weapons to deal with them. This combined with the stingy finding of allies, weapons, and the fact that when you retry a level you don't "retry" it as much as you let us start all over without the benefit of the traps we used on the previous one. God himself help you if you AND your allies die, then you have to try and beat that last level after it has been primed.
I will say that I appreciated that the game reacted if you had no allies, or no traps to use. I liked how you did build in a fighting chance. But all in all, the difficulty factor is just too much. Partly because there is no learning curve. Partly because there are TOO MANY POWERFUL ZOMBIES in later levels. Then, partly because if you make one mistake, the retry function is a joke. I cannot overstate the above points enough.
Well, all my bellyaching aside, this game is good, quality, well-made with good artwork, good scripting, no bugs to speak of, good story-line, good gameplay. Dang, that list of "goods" rivals many other games here on Newgrounds, and, with that in mind, I can safely say that you should be proud of what you made. Now, if you'll excuse me, despite my mixed review, I have some zombies to kill.
Good game, needs some balancing
Graphics (10): Great job in this area, the game uses the same graphics and zombie generation from the previous game, so there's less of that cloned feeling. Blood and gore is nicely detailed, and it knows when to clean up bodies to reduce lag. The backgrounds are well thought out; realistic looking, and reinforce that feeling that you're either surviving or going to die.
Sound (8): Ambient music, generic zombie groans, gun sounds. Nothing outstanding or keeping you on edge, but it sets the mood nicely.
Gameplay (5): Here's where the scoring starts to suffer.
Firstly you have the option of searching places for stuff. The problem is the amount of times you can search a whole day and come out empty handed, and that's severely annoying when you have no survivors at the start and no other weapons. Later, the annoyance gets worse when any place with gun symbols turns out to not hold guns, and you need to remember precisely which of the random houses is holding the precious shotgun or uzi or whatever. More return from searching would make it a lot more playable; I almost finished the game one time but died because the game wouldn't cough up the three supplies I needed until I went through three days of fruitless (i.e: found NOTHING) searching.
The actual shooting aspect remains largely unchanged from the first game. You have your base and your team of survivors is on the right. Zombies spawn from the left, you kill. It's all very good and all, but it starting to get old, and the "updates" only make it more and more apparant how little went into actually revamping the gameplay. For one, the AI are still as dumb as ever - I had a zombie dog chewing on the bottom left of the barricade, and thought I could leave my FOUR fellow survivors to deal with it as an oncoming of fatties was deemed the greater threat to mankind. Of course, they let little doggy chew 50 HP out of my barricade and I died. What's up with that? But AI is AI, so it's not like we expected much from them.
The main character still has difficulty aiming, which is a nice touch for realism but kinda weird considering most people who survive one zombie fest usually become the Hardcore character. Oh well, no biggie; he still has infinite ammo power, and the previous point is moot especially compared to the following points. The character still takes ages to reload (check some reload animations, he seems to flinch and stutter), and you still can't change weapon when reloading. Both these points make it easy for zombies to get cheap hits, which links me neatly to my next point.
The damage calculation needs to be a hella lot better - I've had a number of times when a zombie wielding a weapon only has to run up to the barricade to kill a survivor. It's confusing and unfair as to why a zombie can kill someone by running into them without the zombie having to raise its weapon.
Finally there's the element of traps which I largely enjoyed; basically you can find useful tidbits like gas canisters and bear traps which you set-up on a 4x4 grid before the night begins. It helps out, although it's kind hard to preserve gas canisters when even the chainsaw can blow them up.
Overall: A decent update of the previous game, but in a way that eventually dulls from the overall shine the first one had. You'll find searching for stuff being random and frustrating, your survivor buddies will either suck or be killed very unfairly, traps often don't work the way you want them to or when you want them to, and unlike the first game I couldn't find the clown. There are very few new weapons and new anything really, just small updates that could have very well been thrown into the first game.
Favourite new thing: Compound Bow, Love it.
Least favourite new thing: Searching is garbage.
What it could do with: Better searching system; better hand grenade usage; use a game engine that's less enticed to send six fatties running at a time, half with melee weapons to automatically reduce my Army to Two.
Overall Score : 7/10
