To beat the boss, strafe backwards while constantly fireing - untill you reach the second pool.
A lot of people seem to have problem with that so I figured I'll just put that info here.

There a easy way to cheat
Once you get the rocket launcher start shooting with the SMG and change over to the rocket launcher while firing every SMG bullet gets treated as a rocket.
Yes, known bug. But since this version is now widely spread we'll just have to look upon it as a cheat code =) No more of these bugs in the sequel. Be ready for it!
