Hey, everyone. I've changed my online username. I am no longer JonBro, and I won't be continuing anything that was made with the JonBro name. If you want to see an archive of my older work as well as what I'm up to now, you can find out here: http://www.jonochrome.com

The biggest, hardest, and best Riddle School of the three! Help Phil escape from the high school using all of your point-and-click adventure game knowledge. Post your time when you finally beat it! (The game has a hidden timer)

Well, it's finally submitted... a full year after the second one. I built up the motivation to finish this about three months ago, actually. I've been working hard on the game since then, planning, programming, and animating. It's been really fun, and I hope you enjoy the game!

July 10, 2008 - Woah. After four months, my game reached the front page. That was REALLY unexpected! Thanks, Tom!

An excellent point and click escape game, ranking among some of the best point and click games I have played on Newsgrounds. A warning though - do not play this game on Newsgrounds, play it on the creator's site instead. The reason - you will undoubtedly find yourself stuck, be forced to check a walkthrough, and find that you're not able to accomplish a certain action. On the other site you don't get this problem. This didn't factor into my review.

The game has stylised graphics that build on the roots of the previous 2, and look very professional and sleek. The animation in the cutscenes fit in perfectly with the game, and while they are not the most complicated they are some of the nicest looking on Newsgrounds. They also add to the humour - which is also steadily improved game to game.

Objects are not hard to find thanks to the mouse cursor displaying the names of the items as you hover over them. It suffers a little from the music, but it's still an improvement on the music in the first 2 games, and there is a different score in the different areas.

The game is literally twice as big as the previous game in the series, and rather than just having objects to find, you also get to combine them to make new ones. Also included is a minimap which indicates the areas you have explored and those you haven't - it goes a little funny at times when you enter rooms and displays you across the opposite end of the building, but it sorts itself out when you go back out again so it's no big deal.

I hope the author was not offended by my (non)review of the first game - it would have simply been that I would be pointing out everything that he has since learnt already, as this excellent submission shows, and perhaps I was wrong but I predicted the response to be "Go check the other games in the series". Either way, there is literally no extra useful information to give, considering the existence of this game, and especially if the next games in the series are even better, so I stand by my decision to do a non-review rather than a pointless deconstruction of the game. In explanation of the suggested rating 10/5 I thought I'd made that obvious - how else would you rate a game that's more than twice as good if you've already given out a 4/5? All games get overrated except the few gems that deserve their ratings, but if they all have high ratings how do you tell them apart? Upon reading the author's news post, I feel we may be on the same wavelength in demanding quality, and maybe getting a little frustrated by people who can't tell the difference.

Each submission has moved on in leaps and bounds from the previous - I only hope I don't run out different compliments to use before I reach the end of this author's efforts.

JonBro responds:

I want to correct the first paragraph a bit--there are two versions of this game, and both are coded differently. For some people, the Newgrounds version works fine and the one on my site is faulty, but for others, it's the other way around. I'm liking how insightful these reviews are, by the way.

And I guess I see what you mean, not going into detail with your review of the first game because you're elaborating on its downsides in your reviews for the games that follow. It's still a weird choice to me, but that's fair.
I don't know, I personally wouldn't give a game a half-star rating unless I really thought it was awful, and I don't know, maybe you thought the first Riddle School was awful, which would be a fair judgment but it's hard for me to tell what your true feelings about it were. There are games I'd give a three-star rating to, and when I come across something twice as good, I might give it a four-star rating, because to me, one rating means "good" and the other means "great". It's not a mathematical science in my mind. But that's the problem with review scores in general, really--everyone does them differently, so there's always a lapse in communication between critics.

Awesome game. This is really the only Riddle School I've ever beaten, and pretty quick if I do say so myself. Finished it in 8 minutes 36 seconds. And when did Phil get enough money to buy a freaking Volkswagen?
